I will be getting married in November. My fiance and I have decided not to have dancing at the reception since both of us are shy and do not dance. Our families are not much for dancing either. I plan on having light music playing in the background while we have the meal, but I'm still afraid that the few people who may like to dance will be bored. I'm trying to think of alternatives to dancing that everyone would enjoy. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Unless cost is an issue, then have a traditional wedding reception of either sit down meal or buffet, cut the cake, speeches etc... and the Bride and Groom and any Pentecostal Christian's may leave before the dancing starts.

I had a christian wedding and there was no dancing. I had my wedding ceremony at 11 in the morning and right after we had our reception. All together it lasted about 4 hours. It didn't seem as if time was dragging along. We a Master of Ceremonies and he was in charge of entertaining the guests. Instead of the traditional money dance, they had us "kidnapped" and asked for help raising money for ransom. It was really fun. Not only that but we had several people sing special songs. It went by pretty fast actually and of course we had loight music playing in the background the entire time. Kenny G. Oh and we had a slideshow showing from the time we were both born through our childhood years and so on. My husband and I also grew up together so we had several pictures of us together as children. It was really nice.

Are you and the groom or even your dad gonna dance? Just make sure there isn't any open space to dance in. Also, don't have any upbeat music playing and there won''t be anything to dance to. After the meal, be sure to go ahead and get everything done, the boquet, the garter, the cake cutting, and all that wihtout any breaks, then just leave. People will only dance when they feel bored. I have seen it done and really didn't think anyone missed out on anything.Good luck and congrats!

My family did not dance at my sisters wedding receptions. . They were married in the morning and had a brunch buffet after the weddings with soft music in the back ground. It was very nice and we enjoyed it. Not everyone is into the dancing thing.

I don't know how 'fun' your crowd is, but I always thought Karaoke would be fun at a wedding! I like the murder mystery idea too...I know that for me and My friends dancing is the best part and i never eat at weddings, the meals always take too long...but this is your day so do what will make you and your groom the happiest!

I know you don't want to dance, but have you considered square dancing? Almost no one will have ever done it, so no one will be better than anyone else. Everyone will laugh and enjoy trying to follow the instructions. I went to a wedding like this once, and it was the most fun I ever had at a wedding- a real hoot.

My sister in law had a cocktail party. There were a few seats but no one was actually seated at tables and people milled around, talking to each other whilst eating finger foods. All had a great time and no-one seemd to care that there was no dancing or dance floor.

Neither I nor my fiance wants to dance, but if everyone else wants to, they may. We're fortunate in that our reception venue is only large enough for the tables, so if they want to dance, they'll have to move some tables. Good Luck with yours.
