I don't live any where near there but the best advice I can give is to google those areas then check them out personally. Your initial gut feeling is the right one so what someone else thinks of a place or artist may not be your piece of cake. Also, speaking with the artist personally allows you to get a feeling of their personality and you can also check out their previous work in their portfolio's and see if they are truly right for the job. If you have any doubts or second thoughts move on and try some where else.

You are the one that needs to be 100% satisfied with the work so you are your own best judge in a situation like this. The most important thing is if they are clean and sterile.

You mentioned you had thought about your shoulder but want to see the tattoo too. I have one on my right shoulder and I can see it. Guess it all depends how big you want it too.

Any ways, good luck with your search and definitely check out any place someone suggests personally before making any commitments.

I love on Long Island. I personally have two tattoos from Cliff's Tattoos (there are quite a few locations on LI). They have been considered one of the best places for tattoos and piercings on Long Island for years. I get everything done there (tattoos and piercings), and they're very clean, very talented, and not too expensive, either.
I'm not too sure if it's within 100 miles, but they are amazing!

Not sure exactly how far away you are from Cortland county but our tattooist is FANTASIC!!!!!! He's in Cortland,NY...Main Street...Sacred Art Tattoos and Body piercings...You want to ask for Doug Moss(owner/tattooist) If you want to IM me I can give you their phone number. (not sure if they want their number online) Check them out. They are extremely clean, steryle, and very friendly. They make anyone feel like family! We've gone to them for our last 3tattoos(hubby and i) and plan on taking our boys for their first when they are old enough.
Hope this helps and happy tattooing!
