A guy from work asked me out, but I turned him down because I was sure my parents wouldn't let me (they never really forbade me to date, but it's implied), and now I'm still thinking about it. I think that I'm regretting my decision even though I don't think I like him the way that he likes me. Is that normal? I've never been asked out before, but he seems like a really nice and caring guy. Should I ask my parents if I can go out, and how so? Is it too late to ask him if he still wants to go out, provided that my parents let me... or would that just mess things up? FYI, I'm a senior in high school and he's a sophomore in college.

Any opinions appreciated. Serious answers please.

It's perfectly okay to date someone that you're not sure if you like; that's the main purpose of dating, to get to know someone so you can decide if you want to be in a relationship with them.

And yes, talk to your parents. You're plenty old enough to date, if you want to.

Why dont you talk to your parents just to see. Better to be honest with them than try to arrange something without their knowing. You could always have a date during the day, maybe you could go ten pin bowling or just for something to eat. If you tell them who you are going with, where you are going and then discuss what time you should be home, then maybe they will agree. If you have a cell phone then say you will take it with you. Letting them see you can be trusted is a start I guess. Or perhaps you have a friend with a boyfriend who would be willing to go out with you. From a parent point of view ( I am one ) its just knowing that you are safe and ok and wont get in the way of work, studies etc etc. Some parents have different ideas & views on dating and if you dont ask them you will never know. If they agree then take a deep breath and ask him out. I wish you luck and hope you get your date :o)

About telling your parents that you want to try dating: You are a senior in high school, so you're not too young. As long as you can keep your priorities straight, including keeping your grades up and assuming your own responsibility for birth control and STDs, you have a good leg to stand on, but I'm not your parent and I don't know their reasoning for not wanting you to date.
About considering this guy who asked you out: Sure, you should reconsider. How else would you get to know him? You can't know if you like him the way he seems to like you without giving him a chance, but just stay safe. Double date with a friend of yours, for example until you feel comfortable.

It's probably not too late. You didn't say how long ago he asked you out.
Ask your parents and then contact him with the info.
You say he's nice....you won't know how much you will really like him if you don't go out with him.
Give him a chance.
Good luck.

well it wouldn't hurt to ask your parent, that way you'll know where you stand,as for the going out,hey unless you do so you will never really know what the guy is like, going out doesn't mean your committed to a relationship
