My christmas present had no problem using the litter box for the first day. Since then he has refused to use the litter box. It is very similar to the one he used before and he is eating purina kitten chow. I'm not sure what to do with him. I've shown him the litter box several times but he continues to go to the bathroom wherever he wants, even on people. The kitten is six weeks old and I don't think he's old enough to have any type of medicine that will prevent runs. Any suggestions?

Call your vet immediately! A kitten that was using his box and now doesn't, uses the bathroom wherever - even on people - and has "the runs" could have a serious problem.

He may have gotten hold of something toxic. (Christmas decorations? Tinsel? Poinsettias?) It could be an advanced case of worms, depending on where you got him. Regardless of the cause, uncontrolled diarrhea like that could make him dehydrated quickly. And if he's that small it could even be fatal to him.

Get him some help at the vets IMMEDIATELY! Good luck!

A little more info if you can. Has the cat had anything else to eat besides the kitten chow? Has any well meaning person given the kitten cows milk for instance?
Btw, 6 weeks is a little young. Was the kitten completely weaned off mothers milk? You need to move fast on this because a 6 week old can go downhill in a matter of hours. Go see your Vet ASAP.
Good luck.

You need to have the kitten seen. He needs to have dewormer and shots asap for starters, but if there is a fever and/or infection, the vet will probably skip the vax and give him medication. A 6-week old kitten can dehydrate really fast and die.

Also, because he is still young, he very well may have accidents. If he has the runs though, he can't help it. Call the vet asap.

First, kittens should stay with their moms until they are fully weaned - about 8-9 weeks, so this could partly be a food issue- he just isn't ready for a "regular" kitten diet. Pet stores sell milk formula made just for kittens, which might help.

Take the little guy to the vet to be sure, they are also other problems (parasites, worms, etc) that could be causing the runs. Also, chronic runs will dehydrate a cat very quickly- so he needs to go soon.

Good luck!

If your cat isn't going in the litter box, it is trying to tell you something. Diarrhea is a sign that you should take your kitten to the vet immediately. Kittens are so vulnerable and you should take care of the problem ASAP. It could end up being critical.

Poor kitty. Sounds like he needs to go to the vet if he's had the runs for several days. Yes, the vet will know what to give him. Don't try to dose a cat with anything unless the vet tells you to. Cats can't take any meds that humans or other animals take in many cases. Their body functions are different and many meds can kill them or make them sicker than they already are.

you need to have your kitten checked out by a vet. it probably needs vaccinations. Your vet will check for intestinal parasites and if your cat has them then he/she will deworm. Your vet can also give you recomendations for feeding

try changing his food. i use royal canin it's a little pricey but it has no fillers. there is a kitten formula and my cats liked it. try any food with no fillers, chicken and turkey are easiest to digest.
