I'd go with the Canon. I've used the SD200 and SD630 without any problems. The picture quality is great. My only complaint about it is battery life. After a while. The battery didn't last very long. My favorite thing was the SD memory. A lot cheaper than Sony memory sticks.

I've got the DSC-W50 for its small size and easy interface. Great for taking photos when I'm out and about. Are you a parent or a grandparent? get the sony. Are you a budding photo hobbyist? get the Canon. Check out Dave's digicams reviews.

The sony seems to offer lots sharper photos. I actually have a canon and my room mate has a sony, on occasion his digital camera seems to offer sharper photos. I never went for the sony as a results of fact of each and all of the proprietary issues, to not point out that its dearer than a canon

I have a Canon Powershot SD600. I decided it was the one for me. However, since you provided little information as to your needs in a camera, I'd advise you to go to these sites:

http://reviews.cnet.com/

This site will give you reviews on cameras from pros, and from the people.

http://www.myproductadvisor.com/mpa/home.do

By answering various questions, this program will recommend a camera to you. For me, I wanted a camera that was fast, small, powerful, and simple. They recommended the Canon Powershot SD600 to me.

Just another thing: I've NEVER met anyone who said it was a bad camera, and I talked to a lot of people about it. Everyone recommended it to me. You probably won't be sorry if you get it.

Good luck.

Fuji Finepix F30! Highest ISO in a compact! Longest battery life - and rechargeable (580 pictures in one charge!).
Plus a 50.00 rebate thru Jan 31st.

I have researched buying a camera for about 6 months and got the Fuji F30 for Christmas and it is awesome.
