Has been fighting again I think, he is limping very slightly, only after hes been lying down a while, it goes off once he gets going, and there is what looks like a bite mark on his butt, and as usual when hes lost a fight hes a bit depressed, hes got no broken claws, so I think hes just strained himself getting away from a punch up, I dont think there is any abcess, as hes eating and washing and looks alert, what I want to know is, what clues should I look for that things are nastier than they look, I cant afford to take him to the vet if all hes got is a bruised ego and a bit of a strain, but if hes really sick I will do it, but what signs should I look for?
thanks, oh hes 13, and far to old for fighting!

I know a cat that seems to be going through something similar. He sometimes gets abcesses. He recently had one on his stomach and now he is limping too. He fights a lot and sleeps a lot. A few days ago he was vomiting as well. He is getting better and he was not taken to the vet. We just kept him inside for a little while so he couldn't be attacked in a vulnerable state. You should start worrying if his personality changes drastically. Give him time to rest a lot although make sure he still exercises to keep healthy and build up his immune system. Give him a lot of love and he should be alright.
