This steak I got for dinner has a green spot on it- is it ok to eat? My dad says its from the "cow being branded" but I'm not sure.

If the steak is fresh, it's probably a spot of blue ink that they use to stamp the carcass of the animal with when they put the usda stamp of approval on it at the slaughter house

Sure, there can be dye in the steak fat. The USDA puts it there to state the grade of beef it is, I believe. But it does NOT affect the beef at all.

It's not from being branded, however it is ink from the USDA stamp. Perfectly fine. Plus once it's cooked it will just burn off the top of the fat.

yeh, like branding irons make green marks. i have seen too many western movies to believe that. cut it off and eat the rest. or feed it to rover. do you like green eggs and ham?

the green dye is from the rump roast where the butcher had his way with the cow before cutting her up for meat.
