My family just got a new 8 week old kitten, and we currently have three dogs. 2 of our dogs couldnt care less about the kitten, but one is obsessed with her. She is a 2 year old female lab, and she is acting like the kitten is her baby. she drools constantly now, licks the kitten constantly, and watches our kitten constantly. she has never tried to bit her, but if the kitten is sleeping she will nudge her with her nose. Our dog is ruining our house, because she runs and paces back and forwardth, and cannot settle down anymore, she always has to be watching the kitten. she wont even eat, how do we get her to calm down and return to normal? also, she has had other behavioral changes since the kitten like attacking our horses and other dog, please help!

thank you

Sounds like your dog is being a little mother. You might have to separate the two of them until the kitten is a little older. Eventually, the kitten will begin to defend herself from the dog, not hurting it but by swatting at it's nose and such.

The dog is just being an overly concerned parent and needs to realize the kitten is fine on its own.

Yes, eventually. The kitten will grow up and swat the dog on the nose with her claws and that will be that on the kitten obsession. The dog will leave the cat alone.

Some dogs are never able to adjust to certain new animals that are introduced to the household. She seems to be acting like the kitten is her "Pup" though, is she spayed? If not get her spayed, as for the horses, ask your Vet about that, that could be a behavioural problem. But mostly it just sounds like your Lab isn't fixed and shes going through hormone changes.

Your dog is just fulfilling the role of the mother dog. She may want to bond with the kitten, as humans bond to certain humans. Your dog will relax, but is probably just anxious due to all of the changes. I have a black lab who is very protective of her feline friends. If she is attacking other animals, you may actually want to keep her a bit separated from them until the kitten becomes a bit older.

hi.sure your puppy will quiet down.it somewhat is going to take it sluggish.do not motivate the undesirable habit.basically positioned some water in a twig bottle and gently spray the cat while ever it scratches issues which you do not want it to.I had a pair of kitties that way.i'd desire to confess ti took my cat to around a million to quiet down.My kitties climbed curtains and bit and scratched each and every physique around it even inspite of the shown fact that it have been given a sprint older and it calmed down.basically becareful in case you have small ones they'd get scratched or bitten.

She will get over the kitten when the new wears off. Or when she has licked all the hair off. Tie the kitten around the dog's neck so she gets tired of it quicker.

Well, I think your kitten will calm down. After all, that kitten is in a new environment with new people. Maybe she needs to take her time.

Yes, its a new living thing and your dog is curious, also since it is only a baby it will keep treating it as such until it matures. Try and keep them in separate rooms for a while and see what happens.

Well thats a good thing, at least she will protect it, won't let nothin harm it.so let the kitten stay with the dog ,its not like the dog will kill it.
