I want to buy a travel tripod that is as compact as possible when folded. Any ideas which is the smallest when folded?

I have one that's about four inches tall that I got from Eddie Bauer but I'm not sure if they still have them. You might want to check their outlet stores as well as the retail stores. I think we got ours at the outlet store. It's great. You can set it on anything and is far better than traveling with the huge one.

You can buy table top tripods but I do not think this is what you mean.
The problem is that when you sacrifice weight you sacrifice sturdiness. Some tripods are so lightweight they are near useless because the camera actually moves even in a moderate breeze.
You will need to go look at a camera store to answer this question for yourself, sorry I can't be more help.
