you can't chose one or the other because they're both relative. every guy is different. no easy answers in dating.

It's a mostly impossible question to answer because if presented with the choose of "either or," the chance is we may choose "none of the above."

Years back, during the same week, I had the chance meeting of two women. Woman one was slim, very pretty, and inspired the most wonderfully lustful thoughts, that to this day I am sure are probably illegal to even think in many states! I got to know her, spent time with her, and found myself nearly bewildered everytime she would have to bend over to pick something up... but then, something odd happened. While she was something to look at, she was... very very dumb. Before where I only imagined other uses for her lips, I was now aware of the words coming through them and found myself increasingly annoyed... and not at all attracted.

Woman 2 is someone that I did not find beautiful when I met her. But in spending time with her I discovered she was smart, had a great sense of humor, had similar artistic interests, and generally fun to be around. And as I spent more time with her, I soon discovered she was VERY attractive and was trying to find more excuses to spend more time with her.

So, to try and answer the impossible question... if given only to lustful urges and a short enough time to never need a conversation, then pretty is much better than smart. However, if you have to choose to actually BE with someone, then at least smart gives a chance of their being a genuine connection, and genuine attraction (in which case, you get both smart and pretty, even though you only selected smart).

The question is just too general. I mean does the smart girl have a fun personality? Does the smart girl think she is smarter than everyone else and thinks she is right all the time? Is the pretty girl shallow and wrapped up in superficial things? Someone who is fun to be around is thoughtful and caring, that is really important. Being easy on the eyes doesn't hurt, but everyone's looks will fade. The person themselves are more important.

One of the logical fallacies is a "false either-or".

I think "smart" or "pretty" are a poor "orthonormal basis". They are not orthonormal.

Communication and personality compatibility is important. Thats the "connection". Joy, especially shared joy, is a huge key.

If you look at the facial expressions and body language of the "pretty models" they arent pretty, there is a communication of shared joy. They smile, they flirt, in terms of interhuman interaction, they engage. A less "perfect" model who is able to communicate a plausible shared joy, is often much more successful. A fat girl who isnt incredibly smart, but who has good communication skills, good conflict resolution/negotiation skills, and has and can build a fun interhuman bridge is going to wildly more attractive than a cold sculpture. The entire attraction behind the girl "playing hard to get" is the idea of breaking the ice, and getting access to the light.

My answer isnt both, its neither. You can be a genious, and as hot as they come, but an average smarts average looker with great communication, and negotiation with a healthy and plausible joy is going to eat your lunch every day of the week.

Physical attraction plays a part in whether or not a guys is interested in you. As it does when you like a guy. Having said that though it doesn't mean you have to try and look like a supermodel, or starve yourself to be the like the models in fashion magazines.

But having said that a guy isn't going to want to go out with someone who's a stunner but has no personality or brains. He wants a g irl that he can hav a chat to, that will speak to his mates aswell and not be a complete bimbo

i mostly think that guys like pretty girls because most guys are superficial (no offense to all the guys) and just like girls because there pretty. Guys think that just because a girl is smart that shes probably ugly to, but its not really like that. but also you could be really intelligent and drop dead gorgeous.
