Someone I know has mouth cancer and is starting chemo for it in a few days. But the cancer is actually ON the tonsil. Wouldn;t it be easier just to perform a tonsillectomy?

Depend on what type of cancer as some are easily spread. Chemo perhaps could prevent the spread if it caught early. Cutting tonsil could make the malignant cancer spread faster.

This is not a real answer to your question, only an offering of help for those who do have cancer. There is a website: www.caringbridge. It is a free, on-line site, where a cancer person can create their own page, with their name. The person has a journal to write in, then those friends or family can go to caringbridge, log -on to that person's page and read updates or give info/advice/encouragement, etc. Check it out, it is great, I think. Two friends have two different types of cancer and each has a caringbridge site.

maybe the cancer is already spread in another part of the mouth or maybe the operation is very dangerous because is in the mouth
