My older sister has a 03' Ford Explorer XLT, and i've talked her into getting 20" Wheels instead of 22's, but now i need to know how much it would cost to have her speedometer adjusted on it.

Does anybody know how much it would cost? or A place via online that i could ask?

Only the Ford dealer is allowed by law to do anything with the speedometer, so you must call them to find out.
When you get the 20" wheels, make sure the replacement tires are the same height overall as the originals and you will not have to worry about the speedometer.

Leave it alone. She will think she is driving a little bit faster than she actually is so that might cause her to slow down a bit and maybe even avoid a rollover. If you could fit 5" wheels on the thing it would be even better. Then she'd be barreling along at 5 miles an hour and the speedometer would say 60.

Unsafe at any speed.

In response to the first answer to the question, if the speedo is left alone then the odometer mileage is going to be higher than the actual miles on the vehicle. If this persons sister ends up selling this 03 (very likely at some point) then the value will suffer.

You will need to calculate how far off the speedo is. If it shows faster than actual speed ypu can buy a speedo driven gear from the Ford dealer with more teeth than the original, usually 1 tooth will equate to about 3-5 mph. If it reads slow you will get less teeth. The gears are usually less than ten dollars and are very easy to replace.

a proper wheel shop should be able to calculate the correct tire/wheel combo based on your original tire size. dont just go get a set of wheels and bolt em on. if they are not the correct size it will also screw up your ABS computer. if you get the correct size you wont have to adjust anything. consult a professional before you go buy your wheels. safety over style everyday of the week.

call your ford house and ask how much to reprogram the speed computer to match the tires. without getting the book out i believe that this can be done up to 5 times.
