it really depends on where you get it and how big it is. both of mine are on my shoulder blades and it was about a 5 on the 1-10 scale. if you have had a child, then this pain is nothing...I know b/c I have had 2 kids, and that pain is off the chart. you'll be fine, I promise.

tattoos only hurt if you go in there thinkin they are going to hurt SO BAD. yeah they are going to hurt at first but you will quickly get used to them. guessin that this is your first tattoo, have the artist do a test line. it will show you the pain that way you can be ready for it. remember it is a series of needles that are injecting ink into your skin.

Alot of people will say it depends on where you get them that will hurt more than others. Which is KINDA true. Traditionally, a area where there are alot of bones, such as your foot, will hurt a little more. You will also hear that the upper arm will hurt the least cause it is mostly fatty tissues, again Kinda correct.

Every person has a different level of pain tolerance.

Take myself for example. i have 6 tattoos. one on my calf, two on my forearms, two on the upper arms and one on the back of my neck.

I was told that my first two which are the upper arms would hurt the least.....that was half true. The first one i barely felt, the second one hurt and bled for a long time, simply because of how dark he did the solid black color. The ones on my forearms were said to be painless due to location, although the pit of the arm at the elbow is one of the softest tissue areas on the body, those ones hurt.

Lower leg, hurt simply because of nerve endings in the shin, (anyone who has played sports and had shin splints, know the pain i am talking about)

Now where the myth of the pain comes in, EVERYONE i talked to regarding the tattoo on the back of my neck on my collar line right at the tip of my spine said it will be the most painful tattoo i can put myself through and that i shouldnt do it, I did it anyways and i will tell you this......I fell asleep. The artist woke me up when i was done, and i didnt feel a thing

Do this, pick a design that means something to you, and a location that you like, remember they are all going to hurt at first but the pain only is there until you get used to it then it will either tickle or get annoying. Go in get it done and enjoy the art work that each tattoo is.

You will be fine, just think if someone can tattoo they're inner lower lip then you can tattoo anything on your body!

it isnt half as bad as breaking a bone or well even Child birth!(Being a guy that is just a guess) but have fun they are great and it is something you will never forget!

Not to scare you or n e thing but remember that needels will hurt and a tattoo isnt just 1 needle. for an outline it is usually like 5-7 needles in a circle to make a point, and a filling, or shading needle can be anywhere from 9 to 13 sometimes 15 needles in a straight line.......but once again dont worry

take some m&ms and a sprite (or soda of your choice) to keep your sugar levels up, and your endorphins down, you will be fine

I would say, from experience, that it really depends on the location of the tattoo, the time of the month for you (if your a female), as well as your tolerance of pain.

First, placment is a big deal. Stomach and rib cage tattoos hurt like nothing else. Arm tattoos are relatively easy. Its all about where your going to do it.

The time of the month...yes, I said that.....with hormonal fluctuations, your skin is more sensitive at certain times of the month. Just keep this in mind when scheduling your tattoo!

Pain tolerance is the biggest thing...if you are that afraid, then its probably going to hurt alot worse than if you are relaxed when you get it done. If you are too scared, but really want a tattoo, then websearch skin ointments that will help numb your skin for the procedure.

All in all, I've been in worse pain than getting a tattoo. Its a skin abrasion, pretty much. Yes, it stings, but is worth it if you appreciate nice ink!

Hope this helps...

In my opinion i thought that at the top of my back directly on my spine was a nine, but then the bottom was only a 5, i have quite a good pain threshold, but would avoid having another on the upper of my spine! I had one on my wedding finger and that didn't hurt at all!!! The bottom line of it is, everyone has different pain barrier and it purely depends on where you have it and what part of your body you have it, my brother in law is a tattooist and he uses a certain amount of needles in his outline and another amount in the colouring, I'm not sure how many but do know that the outline hurts more even though it has less needles... It's not really about the pain though, it's about making the right decision, do you really want tattoo's???? Ive got 4 that i regret, i wish i had of just had 1 big one!!!!!!!

OK realistically. Id say about 7-8. It definitely depends where you get it.
My first tattoo hurt and I got it on my upper arm by my shoulder Id say that was a 9, my second tattoo I got on my left ankle and Id say that was a 5.

What you gotta know is how much pain you can handle, Me I'm not very good I cant handle pain and take paracetamol for anything but some people can handle pain really well.

The pains bad but not extremley bad. It feels like someone is scratching a needle on your skin its more annoying than painful.

As the time goes on you get used to it. The main thing I'd say is just relax.

It really depends on the placement of the tattoo and the pain tolerance of the individual. Some places can be a 7 or 8 I would say. You know the tender places on your body. Some places can be a 1 or 2.

It all depends on how you deal with pain..i have 1 on my shoulder blade that felt like a 1..top of boob was about a 2(due to coloring) upper arm was about a 1 or less...outside wrist was a 0...It all depends on your pain tolerance. On the spine hurts the worst.(ive heard) due to all of the nerves right there at the skin! Let's just say that giving birth to a child hurts worse than getting a tattoo done. Honestly!
Hope this helps and good luck!

I guess it really depends on where you get it...My lower back hurt less than my upper back....The upper was more over the spine and that's where the pain really comes in...but it's a tattoo which is done with needles so yes it will hurt no matter what...if anyone tells you otherwise they are LYING! I think the pain is worth it but it's a personal choice everyone has to make for themselves! Just remember they are permanent so be sure of what you get and where you get it! Good luck!
