Aqua Doodle mat...I got it for my 1 year old niece on xmas and she LOVES it. Even her parents were happy with my selection!!!! It uses plain water and they "paint" on the mat!!! It makes no mess whatsoever!!!

Nooooo, not a doll! Is it that you really want to buy her something??? Because I found it to be so much more enjoyable to have a really special day planned (i.e. baby birthday party, day at the zoo, etc) because my kids where much more interested in the time together doing something fun than the present - I found that the more I spent on a gift the less they cared about it!! I once heard that this one mom made sure to take photos of every birth DAY & this always stayed with me too....

how about one of those little push cars that she can sit in and you can push. it makes them feel like they are driving and they love that. or a little red wagon? or how about books with lots of flaps that open to reveal things? a sign language dvd? a toy box? a tent that she can play in? blocks? a ball? a little chair or a bean bag? a rug with roads on it so she can push cars around on the roads? glow in the dark toys? a trip to the local childrens museum or zoo?

She will never remember or care so I would buy one little baby toy . Toys R Us has toys sorted by age:
http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?categoryId=2269727&f=PAD%2FTRU+Age+Filter%2F12-24+Months&clickid=leftnav_age_txt
Then I would buy her a bunch of really cute clothes!

- The little red (or pink) push car that you can use in lieu of a stroller.
- The "Laugh & Learn Chair" - I thought this was dumb, but my son got it for his 1st bday and LOVED it.

classic building blocks. like wooden ones. it will help her with her fine motor skills, pique her curiosity in building, and teach her how to make structures. or art supplies.
