my daughter had hers out three years ago. It was really a piece of cake. They used a scope to do it and her incisions were only about 1 1/2 inches long. there were three of them. She was on her feet within hours.

good luck and don't worry.

It's a lot worse to leave it in if it's causing problems. The surgery is one of the more minor ones to have... it takes about an hour and is usually done laproscopic ( with very small incisions and a scope) Your dad will most likely be in the hospital no more than a day or two with a few weeks recuperation at home. There are always risks associated with surgery, but as long as your dad is a generally healthy guy there's no reason he won't come through it with flying colors... he will be a little sore though. This web site should help answer your questions, or you can feel free to IM me :) Good luck, and i hope your dad gets well soon!

A lot of people have their appendix out. They go into the hospital, and remove it and sometimes go home the same day or sometimes wait for 24 hours. If your dads appendix ruptured, it cause a bigger problem which means he may have to stay in the hospital for 3 or 4 days and may have to have iv antibiotics and be monitored more closely.
Dont be scared, Its going to be the best thing for your dad to get it out.
I am a nurse.

Surgery -is- hurt, dearie. Appendectomies are a very common surgery. He has more chance of getting seriously ill if they don't get it out before it bursts. Sounds like he got in in time, though, and he should be alright. He will hurt like hell for a couple weeks, and don't ask him to bend over for a while, but he should be fine. Surgery takes a lot out of you and he'll be real tired for a while.

its surgery, its gonna hurt. the chances are low of something bad happening though. it would be fatal to him if he didnt get it taken out.
