That's an interesting question. If you are going through recovery and people are asking about your recovery, then how can you not focus on yourself?
As the others have said, make it short, to the point and polite. People don't need to know the details of your personal life if you aren't willing to share them.
If you are feeling obligated to answer questions, understand that you have the right to choose what you divulge about yourself to anyone. Make sure you are the one who feels comfortable with what your sharing. I hope this helps. Good luck! with your recovery.

Part of your recovery IS focusing on yourself. Be proud of yourself! If it makes you uncomfortable, then keep your answer about your recovery short and sweet, then move on to another subject. Good luck to you...

If someone is asking about you then they want to know about you. Are asking what to say about a subject that
is tough to talk about then just saying, " I'm taking it
one day at a time. Thanks for asking." Then change the subject.

Tell them you are doing fine (I hope you are), then move on to something else, explaining that this subject has taken up so much of your time, that you would rather talk about other things.

Be very brief and then change the subject. You can also say that you don't want to talk about it.
