is anyone here scared of flying. i am and im not really sure why. poeple say that its safer to fly than to even drive to the airport. BUT i say it may be safer, but when a plane does crash, u're more likely to die, than if u were in a car crash. one thing of why i could be scared is cause my uncle was supposed to be on the plane that hit the pentagon, but another guy went in his place, that really scared me when i heard my uncle could have been on there. and i like to feel in control, and not feeling trapped, if something goes wrong in a car, i can just walk out, but in a plane u cant. i want to know if im really the ONLY person out there that's so scared of flying. im gunna be flying all by myself this saturday and the weather is supposed to be kinda bad with wind. so tell me your opion, r u scared of flying too?? and if u have ANY advice on how i can calm down, and not be so scared that would be GREAT too! Thanx yall, GOD BLESS♥♥

I'm a flight attendant... So, I get these questions all the time like: "Ever been in a crash?"...

I have never been in an emergency landing but I have known people who have. Though you may think its more likely for you to die in a plane crash... think again.

Here's an example. Say you're flying and one of the engines goes out on the plane. They can land with no problems using one of the other(s) engines. Not only that, but whenever there is a problem like that, every fire truck, EMT, and police officer in 20 miles is alerted. And will be waiting on you to land.

If you were in a car, you don't have an extra engine, and unless you're carrying the president, you may have one or two emergency responders alerted.

Everyone I know that has had to make an emergency landing has been because someone on the plane had a heart attack or something like that. I know one pilot who had an emergency landing because of smoke in the cockpit. And they landed fine with no one getting hurt.

Really, don't worry... I've flown more times than I can count. Its my job. And I've never had anything go wrong.

You have already answered your own question: your fear is rooted in your inability to control what happens aboard a plane. That's what a fear of flying is really about. Not fear of heights, not claustrophobia, it's control. The best way to handle it is to confront the fear rather than try to ignore it or wish it away. Recognize that you ARE going to experience some level of anxiety on the plane and make a promise with yourself to get through it. Try to sit in an aisle seat and avoid looking out the window. Have a game or something to keep your hands busy. Always have something to sip on. Good conversation with someone next to you is also helpful. Anything to take your focus off the plane. After you land find a way to reward yourself for your courage. The more you do it, the faster the phobia will vanish.

And do remember, flying IS incredibly safe. It is very very difficult for a plane to crash or experience a malfunction. There are simply too many redundant systems in place to prevent that. In fact, did you know that most commercial airliners can actually fly and land themselves? Thousands of planes are in the air over the US at any given time. Now think of how many times you've heard of a plane crash in comparison to the number of opportunities flying around up there. Now think when was the last time you passed by a car accident? Kinda puts it in perspective doesn't it? You'll get through it, people deal with it every day, you're no different.

yes, i am afraid as well and had the same thoughts about flying. when your in the plane it is all over when it crashes. i would have to say that god is in control over me and he has the say whether or not i live or die. if its not my time then he will keep the plane in the air.i would pray and ask for his help and trust him and thank him for his protection while i am in the air.also you could take your music along and read while you are in the air to make time go faster.

Let's just say you are a little uneasy about flying. I love to fly, but I am always a little uneasy. I am scared to death of heights, yet I skydived for six years and made 300 jumps. I was determined to not let fear keep me from doing what I wanted to do. Maybe if we all had a little of that uneasiness when we drive our cars, we would be more care full.

That is a very common fear. I am afraid to fly over water. Otherwise, I'm OK. Car crashes kill many more people than plane crashes.

Yes I am scared of flying. A lot of people tell me to not look out the window's and to keep myself busy so I'm not worrying about something to happen. My biggest suggestion is to read, that seems to help a lot with me. Hope you have a good flight!
