...seem to think that there is a shortage of stud dogs?

I mean seriously, there are so many QUALITY stud dogs available, why would I want to use somebody's pet of indeterminate origins? Even champion studs don't get used that often.

Take two brothers I had. Both Champions/obedience titled. Multiple Group winners. One was BOS at the Nationals, the other was best Canadian Bred at Nationals. One earned #5 in the breed rankings, the other #3. They were used maybe a dozen times between them, if that. (But they both got their ROMs ;-) )

If quality dogs like this don't get used much, what makes you think your unknown pet would even be looked at?

Sad fact is, its the BYBs appealing to the BYBs.

Would I let someone with a poorly bred pet b itch breed to one of my boys? No. So they find an ad for someone wanting to breed their male because he has "beautiful blue eyes", and their problem is solved...my problem starts when their puppies start coming to my rescue about a year down the road.

Even sadder is the fact that the owners of those male dogs will likely find someone just as ignorant as they are to take them up on their offer.

"If quality dogs like this don't get used much, what makes you think your unknown pet would even be looked at?"

Because the owners of the average pet b itch wouldn't even know to look for quality in the first place. :(

Yes, the BYBs find other BYBS and produce XXXX more pups than any Champion dogs ever will. And then they sell to anyone, hence the people posting on here things like "I have 4 young children in a 2 bedroom house with no yard & no time to walk my Jack Russell Terrier. Why is he so hyper? What can I give him to make him behave?" - No reputable breeder would put a Jack Russell in a home like this, but BYBs take the money and run. And the shelters overflow...

You know I was thinking this same thing the other day when I was at the park with my dogs. I have 2 boxers from reputable breeders. I did a lot of research before buying my dogs. Their parents have been health tested for everything and were quite expensive compared to a BYB. Anyway, we were at the park and this guy comes up to me and asks me about my 5 mo, fe, flashy brindle puppy. He said that she looks like a show dog - if he knew any better, he would know that she has too much white to win any shows. But he continued to tell me he has a male boxer, and would I be interested in using his dog as a stud. !!!!

I am not a breeder, but I wanted to engage him to see if he had any idea of what he was talking about. I asked if he showed his dog, he said 'no'. I asked if his dog was tested for cardiomyopathy, he said 'huh'? I asked if his dog was tested for aortic stenosis/sub-aortic stenosis.... he had no idea what I was talking about. I didnt go on to other health tests that boxers should have, but I asked him why I would breed my dog to his if he hadnt done those tests and he said b/c his dogs grandfather is a champion. whatever.

He asked me how much I paid for my dogs... When I told him that they were over $1000 a piece, his jaw hit the ground. And he said "I got a deal on mine then, I only paid $300." He still didnt get it after the discussion on health tests.

I dont breed, b/c I dont have the $$ to do it responsibly. If I ever become wealthy, I would love to show and breed boxers. But for now, I have pets from responsible breeders.....I hate BYBs.

Most show breeders would not allow their stud to be used on crappy bitches, so I suppose that there is (sadly) people that will use them.

I personally don't even like being approached by stud owners with the 'perfect dog' for my *****, at a dog show, much less anywhere else.

I really think it is a way for them to experiece the puppy thing without the responsiblilty? Guys seem to want to get their dogs bred more than girls perhaps with them its a "guy thing". I dont understand it myself but, great question. Do you really think the people on here asking are concerned about quality?

The people who think this don't really know much about the breed. They like their little 'Spot' and want to see his puppies and make a little money on the side.

I agree with the poster above... they're looking to breed and it's primarily byb looking for another byb. They don't care anything about what they will produce, they just want to have the puppies. Really sad.

It could be an empathy issue. Some folks see themselves in their dog, and therefore personalize the neutering of the male dog.

no longer inevitably. woman canines can bond in basic terms as strongly to woman proprietors as male canines can. i detect my male canines are extra like "momma's boys" and that my females have constantly been extra self sustaining. yet all bond with me the same.

I don't know that so many owners of male dogs think there's a shortage of studs. You seem to think you know quite a bit and that sarcasm you carry behind all this knowledge is really unattractive. Unknown pets? You swallowed a turkey bone this season, didn't you? Go eat some candy so you'll be a bit sweet!
