I have REGULAR white flour and I really don't want to have to look for/buy "SPECIAL" flour just to make a loaf of bread! I just got a new bread machine and am really anxious to try it out....but I'd like to just be able to work w/what I've got in my kitchen already.
Anybody have a recipe that they've used themselves? Please don't send "links"....I've already done some searches....I'm looking for a recipe w/personal experience behind it!

Your bread machine should have come with a recipe book. I have always used regular flour in mine, and I have always had good results. So go ahead and don't worry about the "special flour". Good luck, and enjoy.
Found my "Electric Bread" cookbook, will send recipe in a moment. This is my favorite bread machine bread.
Yes this a link, but it is identical to the large loaf recipe in my book. But this saves my carpal tunnel. lol. I used the regular, white bread cycle. My machine is quite old. This is excellent with a homemade cheese and potato soup.
Baked Potato Bread (bread machine)
rec.food.recipes/Edouard_Lagniappe (2000)
1 1/2 Pound Loaf
3/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup fat-free sour cream
1 tablespoon canola oil -- optional
3 tablespoons bacon bits -- fat-free
3 cups bread flour
1 1/2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk
1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
3 tablespoons potato flakes -- * see note
3 tablespoons chives, freeze-dried
2 teaspoons yeast -- fast rise
-or-
3 teaspoons active dry yeast
Add ingredients according to particular bread machine. Bake using the white or rapid bake cycles.
This dough can be very dry so resist the urge to add water.

You don't have to use bread machine flour. I always use all puirpose flour. Your best bet might be to try one of the basic recipes in the book that came with your bread machine first. They will have all the right proportions for your machine. Just substitute all purpose flour for bread machine flour.
Here is a great recipe when you get used to the machine:
Honey Oatmeal Bread
1 cup lukewarm water
1/3 cup skim milk powder
1/3 cup honey
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 egg
1/2 cup quick cooking oats
4 cups flour (approximately)
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tbsp yeast
Place all ingredients in the bread machiine in the order given. Set bread machine to basic white bread setting. I always check the dough a few minutes after it starts mixing and add a little liquid or a little flour if it seems to need it. You can use half white flour and half wheat flour if you like, and then use the whole grain setting on your bread machine.
This is a sweet bread that is great for sandwiches or eaten with butter.
Enjoy your bread machine. We love ours, and have been using a bread machine for years.

I use my bread machine all the time, in fact, I never buy bread anymore. My favorite white bread recipe is the basic one out of my bread machine book. And yes, I've used all purpose flour often, and it works just fine. I do usually buy bread machine flour because I think the texture comes out the best, but regular flour has always turned out good for me too.
BASIC WHITE BREAD
1 cup and 2 tablespoons (9 ounces total) of hot water (115 - 125 degrees F)
2 tablespoons canola or vegetable oil (I like to use olive oil)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 cups bread machine flour (all purpose works fine too)
5 teaspoons bread machine yeast
I rinse the bread pan out with hot water, then let hot water sit in it while I measure all of the dry ingredients into a bowl. (Especially in the winter when the pan can be rather cold, it helps to have the pan warm so the yeast will work properly)
I empty the hot water out of the bread pan.....measure into the bread pan the oil and water. Add the dry ingredients and set on the express bake setting. You can have your first loaf in an hour! =)
The temperature of the water in the recipe is important. It makes the difference in how it raises.
I have used recipes that call for powdered milk, but it's just fine without it. You don't have to substitute anything for it.
Enjoy your bread machine! I love mine!! :)
Oops! Another tip............you don't have to worry about puting the dry ingredients in any certain order unless you are setting a timer to bake it at a later time. If your baking it right away it all gets mixed together right away anyway! :)

I have never used "special" flours - other than whole wheat sometimes
White Bread (1 1/2 pound load)
10 oz water
3 cups flour
2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp dry milk
1 1/2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
Put water and milk in bread pan in the machine. Add dry ingredients, trying to keep salt and sugar around the outer edge of the pan. Then add yeast by making a small crater in the top of the flour and pouring the yeast in.
Follow machine instructions for making a 1 1/2 pound load.
