What they said. If you can afford it, pay private. God knows, I wouldn't trust an NHS Dentist with something that can become fairly complex oral surgery, affect your ears, sinuses, balance, brain, cause respiratory infections, etc, if mishandled.
Oil of cloves on a cotton-bud is the best thing there is for toothache. It's dead cheap. Harsh, and takes getting used to, but it's the old-world topical toothache med.
The more impacted (growing in sideways), usually, the later wisdom teeth erupt. 26 is not very late, but it's late enough.
I feel your pain, kid. All four of mine were extremely impacted. I had a sparkly private NYC oral-surgeon to remove them. Took all four out in five hours. Had balance problems from effects on the inner-ear, for half a year. The oral-surgeon said that was 'normal'. I was 22, at uni, and not amused.

I had exactly the same trouble and pain when I was 26 so I know the misery you are suffering. I would advise going to see a dentist soon as I suffered needlessly, because my wisdom teeth were impacted and were unable to cut through the gums as they should have. Impacted means the teeth are pushing to get out but, against the tooth beside it and not the gum.
I ended up getting all my wisdom extracted and had no more trouble with pain. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Well I am 22 and I just had all my wisdom teeth removed, one was because it became infected and the other one because it was rubbing on the gums and I insisted the other two get removed so I didnt have to worry about them later. There isnt much pain relief you can take, your tooth probably has a flap of skin over it and food got stuck in it, and is irritating or infecting it. Or your upper or bottom tooth is rubbing on that flap and making it painful. You should just have them removed so it doesnt happen again. I dont think it hurt at all to take them out. Dont eat anything sharp or crunchy and maybe some oral gel or anbesol to numb it. But it wont go away till they are removed. Wisdom teeth can come whenever they feel like it. Good luck! :)

My wisdom teeth came when I was 13, and yeah, it's VERY painful. Sometimes, more itchy then painful. I think it's okay for them to come at 26. You can just get some Orajel to ease the pain. Maybe you should put some ice on it to dull the pain.

Your tooth is cutting and yes it is painful. Go to the dentist and see if it needs to be pulled. To help with the pain now, take Aleve or Advil. Another thing that helps (this is used with teething babies) is to take a washcloth, wet it thoroughly and then put in the freezer. Once it's frozen, take it out and chew on it (gently) with the tooth that is cutting. That will help with pain as well.

I have had problems with my wisdom tooth and had it removed this year. The best thing for the pain is clove oil. Pour a few drops onto a small dab of cotton wool and apply it to the tooth. Works wonders, Before doing that rinse your mouth out with warm salt water.

My wisdom teeth came when I was 21. My son is nearly 25 and he is just getting his. I had mine taken out when they were coming through-see your dentist. There is no need to be in pain.

My wisdom teeth hurt too, I am also 26, so think that it must be normal for them to be growing now.... I usually put ambesol or bonjella on the gum around it, also went to see my dentist who ground it down as it was rubbing really badly on the side of my mouth making my gums really sore... if the gels don't work, go and see your dentist.

perfectly normal for you to still have problems with wisdom teeth at your age. I'm nearly 34 and still suffering!! Try a bit of baby teething gel (bongela) this will help as the tooth breaks the skin.

i had mine taken out in high school, but my brother is 25 and his are coming in....Orajel makes a really great product "medicated toothache swabs" they are like Q-tips filled with numbing stuff and you break off one tip and the other end fills with the numb stuff.(benzocaine 20%) hold it on the affected area for a while and this will ease the pain temporarily. I'd check with a dentist to see if you will need to get them removed or not. good luck! )
