Certainly you can travel in gusts up to 40 mph (though how bumpy the ride is depends on the size and speed of the aircraft.)

Assuming you'll be flying on a jet , in the air you'll be travelling around 500 mph, so that means the air is travelling at 500 mph over the wings. The 40 mph gusts that could be added (if the gust is toward you) or subtracted from this (if the gust is with you) is nothing compared to the speed of the air you're already seeing.

Landing is at a lower speed, 100-150 mph, but still much greater than the gust speed and the airport will likely select a runway that's into the wind, so though the landing could be bumpy it won't be dangerous.

Cross winds can be dangerous, but most airports now (and I'm almost certain Dallas is included on this list) now have cross-wind detectors and if it's too bad they just won't land.

I believe that's wind gusts on the ground, not some 30,000 feet in the air.

American Airlines is always late, so since they won't be taking off on time, the winds will have probably died down before you even depart.

Piece of cake. AA is a good outfit to fly with. Believe me, this will not be a challenge to them.

not a problem. I do it all the time.
It may be a little bumpy on landing, but again, no big deal
