My cat I think is having seperation anxiety or something. He gets very territorial whne I leave he will run to the door and jump up on his hind paws and stick his front paws in the air as if he is trying to block me from leaving. Sometimes he even swipes at my feet, his claws aren't extended but he just doesn't want me to leave and he gets all sad and cries by the door. Is there anything I can do to soothe him before I leave?

He may be reacting to your own sadness about leaving him. I had a cat who would do the same thing when I would leave him. I try to distract her by feeding her some of her favorite canned food right before I leave and leave her eating when I go out the door. she will be full and then she will take a nap on a sweater or blanket I've used. When she wakes I will be home.

I had a friend whose cat would be destructive when left home till she put fresh cat nip in the cat toys every day before she left.

I had a cat who stopped using the litter box and used the bath tub instead when I left, so I put the the litter box in the bath tub and all was fine.

Maybe he will be more secure in a fully-ventilated cage where he might be less intimidated by his surroundings. It's not cruel...this was suggested when I got a greyhound years ago for this very reason. You could put in a soft blanket, some food and water, a play toy that he likes, and a place for him to relieve himself. Some soft music may help too. Good luck.

This sounds cruel but.
He'll get used to it and yes he will pick up on the times you are leaving.
