Take him down immediately. If you are still in high school, get on your school's wrestling team. Sean Sherk, the UFC's current lightweight champion, is only 5'5" and he spent his whole career, less the last fight, fighting at welterweight against much taller opponents. In UFC 39, for example, Sherk fought 6'1" Benji Radach (sp.). It took some work, but sherk got him to the ground, was able to maintain top position, and ended up stopping the fight with elbows. Like wrestling, Brazilian jiu jitsu was designed to eliminate (or at least minimize) the disadvantage of a height disparity. In some cases being short is to your benefit on the ground because your arm doesn't need to go back as far to get the full pop on your punches. Igor Vovchancyn's early fights in PRIDE have some good examples of this.

Although a 5'4" guy would really be at a disadvantage against a 6'4" guy, there are ways to even up the score in clean boxing match. A smaller guy should fight the way Joe Frazier did in his fights versus Ali. He must try to bob and weave under the taller fighter's reach (which would surely be longer) and dig into the body before unleashing hooks and uppercuts to his head. He must also have good head movement just like Tyson in his prime. Of course the smaller fighter must make up for his lack of size with speed and power, again, just like Tyson!

OK, here is what you gotta do, I'm 5'7 so most of my fights have been against taller people. Bend down, throw your punches in his lower area. Believe me he will get the message, also he won't really be able to hit you because he is too tall. You gotta stay low. Remember in a fight its all about the heart. By the way a big man never wants to lose to a lil man in the present of other men because most people thinks because you are small and he is large its a giver for the big guy. One good hit and he will know he is in a fight. Whatever you do never start a fight always try to avoid it. I understand some times you gotta do what you gotta do.

There is no answer to your question because suppose the taller guy is faster and stronger than you example Thomas Hearns tall fast strong can box very athletic first thin your going to have to give up something example Sugar Ray Leonard your going to have to take some chances meaning your going to go inside and work the body and try to slow him down you are going to have to take the fight to him a lot of pressure now this is a start for a boxing match now if your talking about a street fight don,t do it

Don't go for his legs, ive had many people come at me trying to take out my legs and being taller then them either shifted my weight throwing them into a few uppercuts or while ther down low tryin to take out my legs have jus smaked them in the bak of the hed.

Because naturally a taller person has a longer reach you need to rush in and overwhelm him, staying out wil disbenefit u, rush in and grab his shirt around the chest or above this will be your leverage, in this position his reach has no effect on u.

once you have him with your weaker arm it jus comes down to accuracy with your other arm so slog away until you think the opponent has learned his lesson.

of course its natural that you will recieve a few punches while this is happeneing, but it comes down to gutz.

People think that height is very important but it works both ways. Since your about a foot shorter, your best best is kidney shots and ab shots. What you need to do is what mike tyson used to do to al the taller people when he was actually good. You need to get inside their jab, and once you do then your height will work to your advantage.

Great question. Often times shorter people (like myself) are intimidated by taller/bigger people. Don't be. Use your speed against them.
Fake like you are going to punch them, then as fast as you can go to their legs and take them down, thus brining yourelf into a punching position. I have one many fights like this-it is a wrestling technique. If you are serious about fighting, I sugjest taking wrestling or karate. Good Luck!

Ju Jitsu, Height does'nt matter. It just matters who can hurt someone more. If you have the training, the conditioning and a plan you could choke him out or better yet slap an armbar on him and dislocate his shoulder and just laugh about it while he's screaming in pain begging you to let go.

Look into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or other similar grappling and ground techniques.

Once you've got someone on the ground, height has little or nothing to do with it. Weight might still be an issue if the bigger guy knows how to use it, but the height issue should be taken care of.

Being shorter you are always at an advantage over a very tall person. Your center of gravity is closer to the ground and that being said you can stay on your feet easier. I'm 5'6 and my bf is 6'4. Although he's stronger and heavier than me, I can keep my balance much easier than he, and in fact can often through him off balance. Use your skills as a tailback and lifter to stay on your feet. Also keep in mind that through your opponent has more reach, doesn't mean that you can't take it away from him. Being taller and likely to have longer arms, he needs to have that reach in order to have power behind his punches and kicks. Boxers either stay out of their opponents reach or they get in their face. If your power area for reach is less than theirs, utilize it to punch hard while ursurping their power. But of course, attempt to avoid getting hit. :)
