Isn't this something to do with a quote from Charles Dickens 'Pickwick Papers'. Doesn't someone (Sam Weller I believe) say something LIKE "everyone knows Kent - apples, hops and.....(something else - possibly cherries)". Or at least words to that effect! Sorry I can't be more exact!
Possibly Kent nowadays is 'Chavs, Asylum-Seekers and Motorways'...or maybe that's every county.....
