Yes, stoning is a pretty gruesome way to kill someone. Your question reminds me of a short story I once read called "The Lottery".

Are you asking God? If so, I am not him/her. Stoning historically has been used as a means of punishment and not necessarily tied to any belief system. Its an archaic way of punishing or killing someone...but not so different as being beat to death with fists I suppose. Still, I am glad we do not face this kind of punishment today. God probably is too, if he or she answers you.

Very cheep way to do it, and the Bible seems to indicate that a person who is a murderer isn't worth spending millions of dollars on to keep them alive. Just dispose of them the easiest way possible. If you have been to the middle east you would easily understand why that is the most convenient way.

Ask God yourself, we as Christians can't answer for God.
Unless you have read the whole biblical context perhaps you may not understand why stoning was used. People stoned other people as well.

you have hit on an thrilling question. on an identical time as i do no longer call myself a Christian, i became stated interior the religion and could furnish my answer. God desperate back interior the days of Abraham to nominate clergymen and others to speak to the human beings quite than talk to each and all of us Himself. the comparable concept applies to making justice. The rules of guy attempt to mimic the guidelines of God. As a Spiritualist the respond is easy. God has no desire to stone everybody. it is guy's concept of the type you cope with circumstances you do in comparison to - no longer God's.

and the whole town got into it! meanwhile, if the offender ultimately offended GOD and not just the PEOPLE, why didn't god just stop their hearts? why did the entire town need to get in on it? i can only imagine the screaming and the pain of a woman accused of adultery. what a hateful god that is.

Like most punishments it was designed as a deterrent to crime.
which sounds worse? Commit adultery and we will cut off your head.(pretty quick) or commit adultery and we will put you in a pit and let the towns people throw rocks at you until your dead.
