I need to know of some exercises that burn a lot of calories in 30 minutes or so, but don't build up too much muscle. Does jump-roping build up a lot? Or roller blading? I've heard that these two burn a lot...

Running burns tons of calories and will only tone your muscles.

really, if you want to burn the most calories, strength and weight training are the way to go because they build muscle which burns calories for hours (even days) after you stop exercising. cardio is important too, but you won't burn as many calories in the long term. don't worry about bulking up if you are a girl, you won't get huge muscles or anything, you'll just burn more calories, have better posture, and have a longer, leaner appearance.

also, mix up your exercise routine every 6 weeks or so because your body get used to your routine and slacks off, so essentially, you'll stop burning as many calories when you work out.

jumping rope will burn a lot of calories, so definately do it. you can run stairs, too, or jog around the block. but also mix it up with some squats, lunges, push-ups, and crunches.

to start with, try this:
- 30 crunches
- 50 jumping jacks
- 30 pushups
- jump rope (200 jumps)
- 30 squats
- jump rope (200 jumps)
- 30 lunges (15 on each leg)
- 30 crunches
- walk around the block for 5 minutes or so to cool down.

it should take less than 30 minutes.
drink water.
good luck.

anthing that has to do with cardio. jumping rope builds your leg muscles. and so does roller blading. but you will want good leg muscles....jumping rope gets your heart rate up fast and keeps it up. so go for it. i also am doing this workout (see the link) and it is supposed to burn up to 700 calories in 20 min.

It has been my experience that the Elliptical trainer burns the most calories. If you don't put the resistance too high, then you don't have to worrk about muscle size increasing. It's just cardio.

You are absolutely correct about jump roping. Its a staple of boxing and good boxers are always very lean.
