Go to any huge bookstore and ask at the information desk for help finding a wedding planner/wedding etiquette book. There are several. I bought one that came in a three-ring binder, so I could add pages. It was pretty good. I know it is updated periodically. I also bought a couple books on etiquette and on simple decorative ideas. I made the centerpieces ... 5 1/2 years later, the women who took one still display them. :-) You can also check Amazon.com for wedding books. You'll find a dazzling array of selections, but no one will be there to help you, as they would at the bookstore.
More people "helping" can be a pain in the posterior. Everyone knows the only right way to do things. The problem is, 10 people will tell you the right way and those right ways will vary from person to person. You might actually prefer to plan without too much help. I would suggest a smaller, less involved wedding. You'll still have lots to plan, but you won't lose your mind doing it. Then again, can you future M-I-L help? Or maybe a sister-in-law?
And you don't need to send out engagement announcements. You can, but you don't have to. Some women do a save-the-date note once they've picked the date and secured the location(s) for the wedding and reception. Again, also optional.
Good luck!

There are professional wedding planners available every city in the world. May be expensive though. Try a bookstore or your local library for wedding planner books. You will need to rent a hall, caterer, decorations, invitations, reservations if going on a honeymoon, cake, etc.. List is endless. You better start at LEAST a yr. in advance for it to be nice and to get reservations for a hall. You need to pick your bridal party too. Maid of honor(Who , by the way, should be helping you with this) bridesmaids, ushers, flower girls, ring bearers, etc.

It would be nice if a family member of friends can be present on the wedding day but if not, you can still be happy with a quiet, simple one . You can hire someone to take the photos. What matters is the two of you. If you're both happy, that's all that matters. However, I have searched this site below to help give you some ideas. But good wishes to you both and to your life ahead.

Try asking his mother to help you... I'm sure she would love it and the two of you will get to spend some time together(which would really make him happy.)
