I am looking into getting out of my 12 month lease after only 6 months due to a new job in another city. Any tips on breaking this lease without penalty, if possible? Also, would an eviction hurt my credit?

Thanks in advance.

most places as long as you have paid your rent good and you give a notice they will understand, then you should be okay that's like where i rent it's a 12 month lease but after 3 months with a 30 day notice you can move, good luck

Generally if you move to another city the apartment management will let you out of your lease. Check with them first. Let them know that you are moving due to job RELOCATION. This will let them believe it is not a new job.

Generally, most places won't report this to the credit bureau but in some cases they may charge you the rent until the unit is rented again. Sometimes leases have clauses in them stating that they will only charge you 3 months rent. Best to read your lease over before going to speak with the management. Be sure to follow your lease to the letter so there aren't any mistakes. You don't want to find out later that you were supposed to send them a certified letter and didn't and now you're in a world of trouble.

Another tip is if they won't let you out of the lease, you could find someone to sub-lease it to. An eviction won't hurt your credit, but it won't help you out any if you go to buy a house within the next year. A lender will want 12 months solid payment history.

Re-read your lease. Some contracts allow you to break the lease w/o penalty due to circumstances such as this. Good Luck.

I am a landlord and if you came to me with a legitimate situation i would let you out without penalty providing you weren't behind or didn't pay on time. So just go to your landlord and let them know your situation don't complicate it at this point.
