If you or someone is home most of the time, it would be fine to have just the one. That way he would get plenty of attention, and would be much more handleable, if that is what you want in the relationship. If you are gone most of the day, and/or don't intend on having a lot of interaction with the little guy, you would be better to have a pair, so they won't get bored or lonesome. Don't forget that they are a flock oriented species and socializing is an important part of their health and happiness...Birdman

With experience, I would get two unless you plan on spending A LOT of time with one. These are very social birds: hence the name. They will only get mean if they are not handled a lot and regularly. By this I mean daily handling. The females tend to be more 'biters' and more tempermental than the males, but you can stop the behavior by handling them often and gently correcting any biting behavior. Birds are fun and loving pets, but they do require a lot of time. One bird alone requires more time from you than two birds together! However, even with two birds: One of the saddest sayings is that about the 'caged bird'. Many people think that because they can be caged that they are okay to be caged. It is not true. To be healthy and happy, they need to have a lot of time out of the cage and with interaction. Good luck and I hope that I have been helpful!! :)

Well, first of all, I don't recommend buying from a pet store. Try a breeder. They should have more than 1 litter of lovebirds, so you can pick one from one litter, and another from another litter. They will have mutated babies if they are brother and sister, this is called cross breeding. Make sure the birds are not related before you get them. Most lovebirds are friendly in pairs, and what can give a better chance of a good relationship is to make sure the lovebirds are babies. If they get mean though, you may have to put them in seperate cages. You can put them side by side, but there is a chance they may get loud. Good luck, and I hope you can get a good couple which will have eggs!

It depends on if you want a looking at bird or a playing with bird. There is no more reason for one lovebird to need a mate. If you spend time with it, you becomeits mate. The bird then likes you and looks forward to being with you. If you get two, they're fun to watch but they're a couple at that point and love one another, not you. If you get two lovebirds it's often best to get a male with a female just because there's less fighting but lovebirds do pair up males with males and females with females.

They don't do as well in pears as they do in pairs. Try to have one of each sex, however. Two males get mean when they find that out.

From my experience I suggest that you get 2 Lovebirds. It actually depends on how much time you would want to spend with your new lovebird. If you're a person who spends too much outside the house, then yes I suggest that you purchase 2 Lovebirds. However, if you are likely to stay home everyday and have the time to spend most of your day with your new pet, then I suggest that you only purchase one. Hope my advice helps.

2, one male one female, if you get both of the same sex, they'll get mean like you said. If you only get one, it will die of sadness supposedly.
