When I was watching "Jesus Camp" (a documentary on Christian Fundamentalistm), Ted Haggard stated, "There are over 80 million evangelicals in America, and if they went out and voted, they could control the elections." So - in your opinion, is that frightening possibility?

It's a frightening reality. Reports vary, but pollsters have speculated that up to 27 million of George W. Bush's 50 million votes in 2000 came from evangelical Christians.

I could be wrong, but I believe that the 80 million number represents all evangelicals in America, including those that can't vote. Discounting children, the insane, inmates, etc. the number of evangelicals able to vote is somewhere between 40 and 50 million.

It's happened already. The Bushs were masters at getting the evangelical vote. However, I think his church should have lost their tax-exempt status after that statement.
