Some banks do run credit checks for a checking account. You will just need to check the bank's policy before applying for an account.

No it is not. I work at a bank and we do not do this. All we require usually is two forms of id such as license and social security card and $100.00 to open. Also they run your name and social through chex system to see if you have a negative balance at another bank that you owe.

Nope, just need to have a valid ID & if it doesnt have your social security # on it, then you will need your ss card. You will also need a bill or check stub that verifies your address.
