I notice dogs have amazing ability to wake up and walk around for about a hour then take a nap for two or three hours then eat and go outside for about 20 mins then it's back to nap again. This keep repeating through the day. How could dog do a such thing?

They sleep 20 hours a day total. Maybe it's a defense mechanism for when they're in the wild so they can hide except for when they go hunting.

Are you asking why a dog does not behave and follow the waking sleeping patterns of a human being?

Did my rephrasing of your question answer it for you?

If not, here is the answer.

Because it is a dog, and it is how dogs behave. It is essentiall bred into it because a dog is basically a hunting animal. The wolf, from which all dog breeds originate, save all of thier strength for the hunt. Hunting is strenuous, requring a huge expenditure of energy in a relative short period of time. Sleep is a way of conserving maximum energy so that it is available for the hunt.

THAT part of the wolf's legacy has not been bred out of a dog, yet, because there was no need to breed it out.

Isn't my simpler answer much better than the long one?

I've seen my dogs wake up from a perfectly good nap just to wander in a circle for about 10 seconds, plopping down again in almost the exact same spot, and go back to sleep. It's normal; dogs sleep a lot.

I don't know. I have 2 Siberian Huskies - one is more active than the other - she is always into something, counter surfing, or just wanting to go outside to check things out. My other sibe is just the opposite - she could easily be in the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest and most number of naps in one day. That dog can fall asleep almost anywhere at almost any time. We have to force her to go outside to go to the bathroom, and one time I had to actually get behind her and physically push her out the door to get her to go outside.

My dogs have to hurry sometimes to get in their required 67 naps per day. It amazes me sometimes when I take them places or just play outside with them that they can stay awake all day but, if I do not entertain them they sleep!

Dogs sleep many more hours per day than humans.
