It's good that we have the atomic bomb because the Japanese in World War II fought to the DEATH! We didn't want to use it. We HAD to use it! If we didn't we would have to send 5 million troops to take over that huge island and MORE than HALF of them would have been killed. The people of Japan would have ALL fought. Men, women, and children. They wanted to defend their homeland to the DEATH! The atomic bomb killed only about 300,000. That is a SMALL number compared to about 5 million. And also the WHOLE Japanese race would have been wiped off the earth, if we hadn't dropped the bomb.

it will certainly get the job done,and spare soldiers lives,however,it makes the terrain unusable,and consider this;one modern nuclear warhead,a cone 17'' long and about 12'' in diameter,has more explosive power (6 to ten times)greater than those dropped in ww2.though extensive testing and scenarios have been played out,i dont think the eggheads really even know what that much energy being released at one time would really do,in the open atmosphere.lets hope we never find out.

It is a devastating weapon and that alone has lead to a nuclear standoff for over 50 years. I believe that it would be very dangerous in the hands of unstable people, but we now have at least some hope of preventing a strike thanks to the vision and foresight of President Reagan and his much laugh ted at "Star War's" missile defense system.

The US will use nuclear weapons when they start losing. USA is not honorable, they fight dirty. They pretend that nuclear weapons are bad because they are winning right now and don't need them. But they don't dismantle their stockpiles. Then they get mad when other countries develop their technology.

although all the tests have caused huge environmental problems, and the threat of nuclear annihilation looms above us all, at least it has stopped any large scale world war two like conflicts from appearing...
we can be assured that the next time a major war commences we will all be destroyed...
so its a double edged sword

the bomb is part of world arsenal. the question should we use it?.if we have , store 'em . we should let the iran and n. korea know we will use them. if a dirty bombs are set off in major cities
someone will pay.

IT IS WHAT IS REFERRED TO AS A NECESSARY EVIL. MOST LIKELY SAVED AT LEAST 500,000 MORE DEATHS IN WW2 BOTH ALLIED AND JAPANESE. EVENTUALLY THE WORLD WILL PAY THE PRICE OF PROLIFERATION UNLESS CONTAINED. THE MORE NATIONS THAT HAVE IT, THE MORE LIKELY IT WILL BE USED BY SOME NUTCASE LIKE SADDAM. HE WANTED THEM REAL BAD AT ONE TIME EVEN INITIATING HIS OWN PROGRAM. THAT'S A FACT. IF IRAN GETS IT, ITS JUST A MATTER OF WHEN NOT IF IT IS USED IN THE MIDDLE EAST-EITHER IRAN OR ISRAEL.
