There are some children that are always racing to be first. First in line, first to finish whatever they are doing. And when they are not first in line they push there way there. How can my child deal with kids like this

Some kids are brats, or just pushy and or self centered. Try to teach your kid to not be like them.

I know what your talking about. I saw two 5 year olds physically punching the crap out of each other to be first in line. I think in some cases it falls back on the parents not teaching their kids they don't always have to be first and letting them get what they want all the time. I have taught my kids that in the big scheme of life first in line is not important and just to stand back. Good things will come to them for being the better person. As soon as something good happens ( maybe find some money, get an award etc.) I tell them that things like that happen because they are good people and Karma is rewarding them.
I have seen kids throw the school bags out of line to be at the front. Sometimes a quiet word to the teacher can have a great effect. I've known teachers who come out and say "Right, everyone turn around" then the person at the back is the leader and the fighting little buggers who have now are last. Do this a few times and they get a bit better. Mind you one teacher had different "leaders" so then the fight was for the 2nd place. That didn't work too well

All children desire to be the first to some degree. Some of my students even try to be first to finish eating. It's an obsession with winning, and it's normal. Some do take it too far, though. I tell them that it's ok to not be first all the time. I think it's better to be the BEST, not always the first. Emphasize being good at what you're doing and doing it right rather than finishing first. Good luck.

They feel scared if they have been leaved behind. They hope to get the attention from the adult. In their opinion, to be the first is like to be the best.

Actually, the adult are the same as well, only they do not show "it" out. Everyone also want to win. Children are simple, what they want, they only go ahead. Unlike the adult, in order to win, some even "stab" people at the back!!!

My youngest daughter is one of the kids like that!

I didn't push her to be competitive - she just is. It is GREAT for her competitive swimming she started this year, but not so nice for normal every day life. She has to be first inside, first in line, first outside, first on the bus. I think some kids are just wired this way - and your child is cool and laid back!

Show him the humor in it - not in a bad way but to cause some giggles. And make sure that his calmness doesn't lower his grades since he isn't competitive!

It's competition to be the best. It's everywhere! Some kids feel that they are better than others. Unfortunatley they push their way to get to be first. It's so immature. But some kids feel that way.

I think it's a mix of not wanting to be left behind, forgotten, (sometimes a lack of manners) and not wanting to miss out on anything....
