Back when I was actually young and stupid enough to fly an ultralight.. there was.. and still maybe a system called a Ballistic Recovery System ( BRS) that would lower the aircraft to the ground in the event of a major structural failure of the airframe... such as it is. It was a parachute that was deployed by a small explosive device similar to a shotgun shell blank. This same company also made this system for smaller standard category aircraft such as the Cessna 150 and 172. the major problem with a pilot emergency chute is the difficulty in leaving the aircraft considering the cables and frame of most ultralites.

Ballistic Recovery Systems makes a whole aircraft parachute system available for a lot of small aircraft. They come standard on the Cirrus Design SR 20 and SR 22.

The number of crashes because of structural failure is extremely low, less than 20% of the 500 or so ultralight crashes.
The majority of deaths are pilot related.
Even though engine failure is a major problem because two stroke engines dont last very long, crashes because of engine failure are uncommon because ultralights can glide very long distances and have incredibly low landing speeds.
If you are not convinced of their safety, there are rocket deployed parachutes that save the entire ultralight. they are not too expensive either.

No, just like a full-size aircraft, you either have a parachute or you hit the ground...

Your joking me arn't you?
Micro light.....as in an ultra light aircraft, as in an air craft that has the lowest possible weight to power ratio!
Duh!
It might have an emergency power chute, but otherwise buckle up and enjoy the drop!

PS. Been there, nearly died.
