It isn't that wine is fattening but it is high in sugars/fructose, different red wines are made from a conglomeration of regions throughout the world, the grapes/processing of determine the sugar quantity/sugar depletion from the body of the wine itself so if you drink a red that comes from a more a dry region chances are the wine will be light bodied and low in sugar vs a region where it is humid and moist would be higher in sugar, soils are rich and shape the flavor of the grape. Here's an example of what would be lower in sugar vs. higher. Here's whites: Pinot grigio high, white zinfandel, high, chardonnay moderately low region pending, REDS: Amorane, high, due to conglomeration of grape mixture, malbec, high due to processing, Cab- moderate, Merlot- low, Chianti- very low, syrah- very low, pinot noir, moderate, ripasso's- moderate, HOPE THIS HELPS. I specialize in wines so I wrote this post in la-men's terms even I need it that way at times, HAPPY NEW YEAR
PS you can tell alot by color, deeper the red-richer the wine, usually high in sugar, the more shallow the color in the reds, low in sugar, dry taste, you'll get it, find a wine store go in with 50 bucks tell she/he your tastes' and start to sample thats how your palate will grow

It does have a lot of calories, alcohol has a lot of calories in general. But Red wine is very good for you so drink a glass of wine and cut down on Coke and sodas.

A glass of wine has about 110-120 calories. That's similar to the amount of calories in a glass of milk, juice, or soda.

It has a lot of sugar in it. Italians love red wine and there are a lot of over weight Italians out there but not just because of red wine, of course. I love red wine too!

Unless your doctor has instructed you other wise. Drinking in moderation (one six oz. glass a day) isn't fattening.

in moderation, no it is not fattening. People in Europe drink it every day, and they are generally thin.

it has no fat, but it does have calories.
your body converts the sugars and stores them as fat.
so drink red. but exercise, too.
