It won't make your hair grow faster or better but it will weigh the hair down and thus straighten it giving the appearance of longer hair.
Nothing will make hair grow any faster. Keeping it conditioned is important against breakage. There are several superior products on the market against frizzing and are a much better choice than baby oil.

No it does not make your hair grow. Baby oil will make your hair VERY GREASY and you don't want that. If you need to condition your hair with any type of oil try Olive Oil. Buy some from the grocery store, put about a 1/4 of a cup in the microwave and heat it. Let it sit in your hair for about a minute and shampoo well. Then let your hair air dry and your hair will come out shiny and bouncy. Spray some Olive Oil Hair Sheen on your hair or IC Olive Oil Hair Polisher for an added shine. These products are not greasy at all and very healthy for African-American hair due to the olive oil being in the products. Do this once a month and you will see a difference and it won't be damage.

Baby oil does not make your hair grow. In fact, it can potentially do the exact opposite. "Baby oil" is essentially mineral oil, which is heavy. Mineral oil makes skin and hair shiny, but it also clogs pores and hair follicules. Thereby causing slow growth and build-up - almost suffocating your hair and scalp.

Better oils to use on black hair (both relaxed and natural) are pure jojoba oil, pure olive oil, coconut oil, or even shea butter. They are light and hair-friendly. Steer away from products with mineral oil (baby oil) and petroleum (vaseline).

I've learned A LOT about hair from the discussion board on this site: http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/

Good luck!

No. Never use baby oil in your hair. it holds dirt and makes the hair really greasy, and limp. You need to use a hair dressing that contains natural herbs and vitamins and minerals and message it in your scalp. By doing this it will help the blood circulate which stimulates the hair follicles which promotes hair growth. i use either Doo Gro or African Pride (Max. with the brown top)

It really does depend on your type of hair texture/skin tolerance, on whether that would be good for you or not...from what I recall from growing up, it does dry out ones scalp and I did also hear that it damages the hair because of the ingredients within the product.
