the title question is partly to get attention - but here is my point ..... in america we are supposed to have a freedom of religion - and yet in the past few years the "judeo-christians" (whoever they are) are claiming that the u.s. was founded on judeo-christian principles - and ... (they further assert) since it was founded on "judeo-christian principles" ...it should continue to be guided by judeo-christian principles - (and where do you find these principles - why in the bible of course) - problem 1 - personally i dont care what the sourse of the principles is - i agree with almost everything america "stands for" - and two - if someone thinks they should be allowed to guide this country under those principles because it was founded on those principles, doesnt that take away from MY freedom of religion - personally i dont want to even hear a religious reference of any sort during a discussion of law or human rights - i am tired of that tactic, to the point of being offended by it

theophilu - please note as stated previously .... i dont care about the source of the rule/law/ethic - i only care if it is fair or unfair to my way of thinking

and peter d - why would i have any reason to want to kill christians or jews ? what a shining example of someone who has completely missed the point

and timjim - i have no problem with good ethics - not stealing - not killing - both good things - regardless of where they came from

and to peter d - what an amazing leap of logic - what reason would i have for wanting to kill christians and jews - you are a shining example of someone who has completely missed the point

Yes, we're all entitled to freedom OF and FROM religion.

By legislating specific religious doctrine and forcing everyone to accept some particular idea or adhere to behavioral standards from said religion means that our religious freedom is being infringed upon.

The purpose of the "separation of church and state" is twofold. First, it ensures that religious beliefs - private or organized - are removed from attempted government control. This is the reason why the government cannot tell either you or your church what to believe or to teach. Second, it ensures that the government does not get involved with enforcing, mandating, or promoting particular religious doctrines.

Just where to you think our laws and rights came from?
The were designed into our system by men who believed in God and the Bible.

Without that benchmark, who is to say what rights we have, how we got those rights, and what laws we should live under.

Even our multi-tiered government comes from the Bible, we have governments at the city, county, state, national levels.
That came from the Bible.

We have laws against murder, taking someone's property, rape, liable, etc from the Bible. Our rights, so the Declaration says are inalienable and are from God. If we forget that, what rights do we have?

The countries that live without the Bible, have no cornerstone and are always in turmoil.

Our Constitution specifically created this land as a land of laws, not a theocracy. That means that we are not ruled by priests, and pastors, etc. like the IMAN rules in some countries.

I studied the constitution at the National Center for Constitutional Studies, and I know the background of our founders, all believed in God, no matter what our current schools will tell you. For about a hundred years now, our schools have been rewriting our history.
They want a humanist society.

The Secular-Progressives are marching as hard and fast as they can towards a humanist world. I am truely scared of what that will bring. I much prefer to live in a society that lives by a book that says you should love your brother.

Our constitution makes it mandatory that all laws apply to all people equally, and we have been slowly drifting away from that.

All western constitutions...even the USSR was founded on Judeo-Christian principles.
according to Judeo-Christian principles, every man is free to practice his own religion but that may effect you negatively if your religion says it's ok to kill all Christians and Jews and to beat your wife; so what should you do?
Go live in a country where you are free to kill Christians and Jews and beat your wife every time you can't get it up.

America, regardless of what any Fundamentalist will tell you, was founded largely by Deists - people who believed God created the universe, but hasn't done anything since. Remember, freedom of religion should always include freedom from religion as well.

Everyone has the right to believe what they want, but no one has the right to push their beliefs on any one else - in schools, through legislature, etc. And this country is NOT founded on christian values - good biblical values like slavery, oppression, restriction of belief systems, killing people for not agreeing with you, suppression of science, etc.

You are absolutely right, of course, but they can't hear you. They only hear what they want to hear, and what they want to hear.

Our country very strength lies in the line that separates church and state.
