A newfie wedding will be a super fun casual drunk fest. And newfie is not always a derogatory term. My fiance's best man is a "newfie", we all call him newf and have for years. He's a super fun guy and anyone would be lucky to be from newfoundland. Fabulous people those east coasters.

Newfie is often a term used for Newfoundland Dogs. A newfie wedding might mean the breeding of a male and female Newfoundland Dogs... OR.... a wedding taking place in Newfoundland (Canada).

Just a guess, but with my wife being Canadian, I hear the term "newfie" used to denote people from Newfoundland.

"Newfie" is a colloquial, and generally pejorative, term used in Canada for someone who is from Newfoundland. It was recorded as early as the eighteenth century...... therefore people from Newfoundland

It can't be complimentary. When Canadians talk about "Newfies" (Newfoundlanders), they are using the term like Americans use "redneck."
