I should probably add that at the time I was wearing a U.S. military uniform and carrying a government issued rifle. I was trained by our government how to kill and ordered to do so. I've got some serious regrets about that time in my life. Am I exempt from the Thou Shall Not Kill clause?

Don't look at it from a religious standpoint. You will rot underground when you die, so don't worry about going to hell. Christian scare tactics shouldn't be taken seriously-- it's just one of the many layers of control in our society, a glass barrier against free, individual, forward thinking.

What you should do, though, is do everything you can to make the world a better place than how you found it, so we can work together to prevent future bloodshed. There is no excuse for war-- we're much smarter than that.

Gan: You ARE exempt from the "Thou Shalt Not Kill [Murder] "clause". Your government will stand accountable before God on how they governed - not you. Besides, you will not "go to hell" because "hell" is a mistranslation of the word "hades" [grave] in the Holy Bible and therefore, does not exist. God is in the SAVING business !

If you've asked for forgiveness and accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, then you are forgiven. God said he has cast it far from Him as far as the East is from the West.

The only thing that will keep you from heaven is denying Jesus Christ. Your sins can be forgiven. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, and no man comes to the Father except by Me."

God said, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes on Him shall not perish but have everlasting life."

Believe in Jesus and all those killings he forgives and nailed them to His cross. Only sinless Jesus can do that for us.

I believe if you are defending yourself or others that the rules don't apply. I could be wrong, but I like to think that seeing as how my husband is serving overseas right now. You need to see a counsler to help you with these issues before they get worse. And thank you for serving our country. God bless.

If you were following the orders of the Military and defending your country, it's not the same thing as murdering someone in cold blood. It's defensive, and that's perfectly acceptable.

Your sin is no greater than all who have had violent thoughts. You say you regret it and I'm betting you won't be repeating it so if you ask for forgiveness from God he will give it. He is just but merciful. No one is exempt but someone willing to look into their own misdeeds is definitely on a right track if you ask me.
May God Bless You.

I'd think it depends on if in your heart your truly sorry it happened, most of my friends are veterans of wars and it bothers them too but they also know they had no choice in the matter. It's a kill or be killed situation.

And I think the reason I'm friends with them is because they are some of the most level headed caring people I've ever known.

Murder is always wrong regardless of what you wear, who gave you the gun, or how bad/evil you think your victim is. However, God and Heaven are just fairy tales to scare people into doing what they already know is right and not doing what they already know is wrong...so I wouldn't worry too much about any eternal damnation. Your regret is good sign, but its time to move on.

Once you repent you are no longer missing the mark and you are forgiven. At some point you may want to start fighting for justice for the downtrodden or doing some other service to humanity for your own sake. You went to their schools, were forcefed their warmongering ideas and then they sent you out to kill and maim.

First of all, I think you know the answer to your question deep down inside of yourself. You know you won't go to hell, since you have no choice in a war situation. Think of all the lives you have saved by being in the military and being a part of the defense against evil terrorists. America does not go to unjust war, no matter what all the propaganda makes you think. You are a hero.
