My parents just paid off a loan for my husband and I. I want to do something really nice for them. We plan on taking them out to dinner. Does anyone have any more/better ideas?

Dinner isn't enough to express your gratitude, that's just an extra. Though they don't expect anything in return, but it's always nice to make them happy. Find out what they've been REALLY wanting to do but no chance yet. Maybe travelling somewhere, etc. Or a very nice massage chair if they like massage. Anything that can make them happy and relax not only for a few hours. Parents are wonderful, eh?

The best way to thank your parents is to be censer with you thank you! As long as they know you truly are thankful I am sure that is enough...The best thing about a gift like that is the fact that you know they are not expecting anything in return which makes it that much better...I wouldn't go out and spend lots of money b/c that is probably how you got yourself in the situation in the first place...But something that they enjoy doing for a day would be nice.. Like a spa for a day is always nice for you mother your father may want a massage too..I love it, relaxes me and gets **** off of my mind for a while...
But the thing to remember is as long as they know you are thankful that is enough...

i really don't think taking them out to dinner is a way to show them how much you appreciate what they have done. my son is always bailing my daughter out of financial jams, then when he needs her to help with something she is too busy or says she will be there for him and then she isn't. i have set limits on her so she doesn't do it to me. but i always feel bad for my son. why don't you offer to help with something they need done or volunteer you and your husband to do something they have been putting off, paint the kitchen or waterproof the deck, something to show that you will be there to help them, don't forget that dropping them a note to tell them how much you appreciate them would mean a lot also. if you know what they like to eat have them over for a home cooked meal and play a card game, go through some photo albums or just reminisce with them. you are very blessed to have such selfless parents, they must love you with all they have.

taking them out to dinner is a nice gester, but why not go the extra mile and fix them up in a nice hotel where they can just get away.

Don't take them anywhere or spend money on them anyway....that will piss them off...think about it...they just paid off a loan and you are spending more money....

Instead....cook them dinner.

Make them a scrapbook. It doesn't take much money, only a little time and everyone loves them. They did it to help you, not to see what they could get in return. They love you!!
