I am overweight, and I need tips that are effective and healthy to help me loose weight. I don't want links to other sites, and I know I can go to a doctor, but I want people's opinions. Thanks!

(P.S. I am only 15 so I can only afford so much)

Start with realistic goals. Set a 5, 10, 20 pound limit to start. If you have more to lose then that well set it accordingly. You have to move your body. Walk, run, hike swim, take a fun class with a friend or your mom. Cut out the junk. Drink water. Low fat. Expect to lose 2 to 5 pounds a week. At first you may not lose anything, but after 6 to 8 weeks (yes, this isn't instant, but it can be permanent) Your clothes will fit you different, Those results mean more then the weight on the scale. Tell yourself, you can do it. And then do it. Good luck!

Okay, well I think you should join track, it's what i'm doing to get in shape, and you can't get cut from it. So to start practicing for spring track which I would definitely reccomend, or if you don't, run a mile(preferably 3 or work up to that) every day. Running one mile or walking burns 100 calories, so if you're not up to running yet just walk around a lot and ask your parents to measure the length of a distance or something with their car pedometer. Also running up and down stairs will help. Try to run up and down like 20 times, it's hard but it's worth it. Do 50 sit-ups every night, this will show results. AFter doing this for 2-3 months, I can now do 40 sit-ups in a minute instead of just 30! ALso, 1 hour of jumproping COULD burn 1000 calories, thats ALOT. It sounds hard, but a good way to start is 2 minutes of slow, 1 minutes of fast, Alternate like this for as long as you can. If at first you can only do it 5 min then so be it! Just try to do it more that day. This way you not only lose weight but become fit and healthy. The jumproping i really recommend b/c you get better after just one day. THe 1st day i started i just tried getting up to 100 in a row, i messed up a lot and had to start over but got great results from doing this over and over, I did this several times throughout the day. Also eat smaller meals, and healthy meals! A good salad idea is-Get lots of dark leafy greens of all colors, toss some chopped boiled eggs in(you can toss the yolk), buy oscar mayer's chicken(by the lunchables probably, its refrigerated and fully cooked in 3 different seasonings which are all delicious, southwestern is my fav), and add lowest fat possible of dressing. It's really good and healthy too with enough calories as well!

Congratulations on wanting useful and healthy tips. First, start by measuring out you food. This is very important. Usually we eat alot more than we think we are. If you are eating cereal of pasta or rice, have only a cup of it, no more. Next, start exercising. If you have cable they have exercise shows on tv or walk or run around your neighborhood. You really shouldn't aim to lose any more than 1-2 pounds per week. Remember you are still young so your body is changing. Don't go overboard just make better food decisions and be active.

I hope this works for. I gave this advice to my younger sister too (she is 17). Good Luck!!!!

The easiest weight that will be lost is the weight that you really don't need......water weight..........start by knocking off the soda, candy, chips and other junk food. Drink plenty of water.......I mean lots of water half gallon a day is a good start. I carry a 20 oz bottle with me all the time and just keep refilling it. Stay away from fried foods of all kinds. Breakfast: Oatmeal......plain or with a banana or raisins, 2 pieces wheat toast dry....no butter......and pound down about 16oz of water. If you need something between breakfast and lunch do an apple or a granola bar. If you eat lunch at school go for the salad, if no salad go for some rice or pasta, but at any rate stay away from the quick stuff( pizza, chicken chunks...etc.) remember pound down the water, before, during or after each meal. When you get home from school, keep active, if your not into exercising just keep busy till super, grab half an apple or some other fruit. When we are bored we tend to eat more....but it's not necessary. Super eat what mom cooks but don't eat a lot if it's not right or a bit fatty. Pound down the water . Before bed if your hungry eat some wheat toast with just a very light spread of peanut butter.......I mean really light. Pound down the water. With all the water your drinking your gonna whiz a lot, that's fine your flushing your system/body. If you want start bringing your lunch to school.........tuna....eat tuna in every form you can think of.......remember pound down the water. The trick is to keep yourself full, if your belly is full and your active, your not going to eat or want to eat. Everything in moderation. You can't get fat if you don't eat fat. Depending how over weight you are will determine how easy this process will be. Email me for more info if your interested.

It doesn't cost much to get the equipment you'll need. Get some resistance bands and one of those big workout balls for resistance training. You can get both for under 30 bucks at walmart and they have instructions in the package on how to use them. You can also go walking which is excellent cardio. You might even find yourself running at some point.

For your diet, cut out all the sugar including soda (replace with diet...you'll get used to the taste), white bread (replace with whole wheat) cookies and any other junk. Start eating more whole grains, lean meat and veggies. Read labels and choose things that are low in sugar, high in protein and high in fiber.

You should be proud of yourself for wanting to do this the healthy way! Be patient because results can be slow but well worth it!

Good luck!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

Get started today!
