If writing assignments were easy, there would be no point in doing them. The fact that you can sit and chat with your friends on the Internet is not surprising -- anybody can do it without thinking too much. A writing assignment is supposed to be difficult. So if you spend all your time comparing the two, you're just going to get more frustrated by the fact that--surprise, surprise--writing can be challenging.

Professional and famous writers didn't become famous just by writing notes to their friends. They put thought into their work--usually a LOT of thought. Many books take years to write and go through countless revisions. Hopefully, you will understand that, because it's arguably the main reason you are taking your class. Even though few of us ever become professional writers, we can all appreciate how hard writers work, and what makes good writing really good.

The psych people have a name for everything. That is because if they can't name it they cannot bill you for it. You may or may not have a learning disorder. That is up to the psych people to test and name. Also, it doesn't really matter. Sure, some of the teachers might cut you some slack if you have been diagnosed with WAD (Writing Assignment Disorder) or whatever the psych folks name it this week. The reality is that in the REAL WORLD, nobody will cut you slack. If you can't do the writing, get a different job.
However, I have a suggestion: When you have a writing assignment, get on the web and write to your friends about the subject of the writing assignment. Save the IM logs. Use the ideas that come up. Organize the ideas that you have into an outline form. Pull up the outline, and fill in the spaces.

As the victim of several hundred writing assignments, let me give a few off topic suggestions -
1. Start early. Like, the day you get the assignment. Set a goal of completing it several days before it is due. For most people deadline pressure does not sharpen the intellect.
2. Start by reading what somebody else has to say on the topic, but (and this is important) DO NOT COPY what they had to say. If you can find it on the web, so can the teach.
3. Relax. Write the way you talk. You can let MS word clean up the spelling and hte grammar.
4. The way I write: Don't worry about the number of words nor how long it will take to type. Write down everything you know on the subject. Then pare away the things which you do not need. In that way the creative juices flow and are not hampered by "500 words" or "three pages."
In closing: You will be writing for the rest of your life. Get lots of practice now instead of sweating the resume for a $100,000 a year job. (Yes, I had one.) Relax and have fun with it. It is only a grade, and most teachers would rather read an grade an relaxed and interesting paper than a tight, cramped (ohmygodohmygodohmygod!) worried one.
Good luck. Enjoy yourself.

I have ADD and I can't concentrate on anything. I don't mean that in a way where I'ed be doing something and see a butterfly and go...Ewww, cool...and chase it around. My mind will drift on other thoughts, mainly stuff that worries me, or interests me. When I am at school I can do the assignment, sometimes, but then forget everytime to turn it in. Or, I I'll sit in class and be listening to the teacher and look over and get like mezmerized in watching a student twurl their pencil around. Now thats bad. I hate it. I disrupts my life and I get depressed enough everyday that I want to scream and....kick a tree or something. People think I'm stupid becuase I can't concentrate on my responsibilities and its hard when they joke about it. Its hurts a lot. I wish I was able to be smart like everyone else.

I don't think so.

I suggest doing the essay in conversational style. Like you're talking to a freind. It'll end up like what you say on the net.

If you want it to be more serious, write down exactly what you're feeling and form it into an essay. Like no one will ever have to read it. It'll end up raw and emotional, insightful even.

Don't worry about it so much, let it flow.

Its normal............When we are thinking about a topic we are so confident, but as soon as it is assigned to us we cannot put all the thoughts together in writing. Don't worry about it.
Just a suggestion........Write everything out on a paper, I mean everything, go through it once or twice and then organize the sentences. It really helps.
By the way the disorder is called dyslexia.
Good luck

Yes there are many types of learning disorders. Attention deficit disorder is probably most common that I can think of. A doctor can determine learning disorders. Other than learning disorders, maybe controlling distractions when you should be studying might help--try hitting the off button on your computer!!!!!

LOL! @ 'disoder' correction by PROUD...!!! She then corrected it... what a pity...

I am afraid that it seems noone recognizes this learning disorder...

I prescribe the following:

write points, then join those points by connecting sentences, go find some people online who will read what you write & give you some constructive criticism...

Writing is hard @ the beginning... then, one day, it becomes easier... then, finally, it becomes hard again...

relaxin is right, sometimes it's not the disorder that is the problem. It's the person's willingness.
