I really wanted one but they are a few hundred dollars. They look so nice and I love cooking, it's my hobby and my salvation... :) Need to buy a new mixer. Is this worth it, or are there any cheaper ones that compare.

Yes, it's definitely worth it. I use mine all the time - especially for pizza dough (make homemade pizza once per week). The hook that comes with the mixer will knead and knead all day long - long after your arms would have given-up.

Yes, they are really worth it. I also enjoy cooking/baking as a hobby and at the holidays. I have had mine for over 10 years and it's still doing great. My ancient hand mixer gave up the ghost last year and my son bought me the Kitchen Aid hand mixer - also a great tool!

It's like what my husband said about the very expensive by very good knives he bought me three years ago, you need to have the right tools to do the job right. He won't buy cheap tools to work with because they break and can make the work harder - why would I want something cheap to work with in the kitchen?

Do it! It's an investment you'll not regret.

I bought mine 18 years ago and it is still going strong. Would not trade it for anything. We even built a special cabinet in the kitchen for it so that I can just pull it out and up to counter level when I need it which is often. Well worth the investment.

EDIT: If you do decide to go with the Kitchen Aid QVC sometimes has them on easypay. I also have the hand mixer, but hardly use it, as I love to be able to just walk away and do other things as the mixer works. The cabinet was put in b/c I have an illness and it makes it easy for me to lift the mixer. Remember it will take up counter space or you will need to lift it. Get the larger motor and bowl if you can afford it, I always wind up doubling or tripling batters in this without a problem. Finally, 5 other family members bought kitchen aids after we did and they also love them. Can't say enough about the product. I love to bake, and it has been used well all these years.
Whatever you choose, have fun.

They are SOOOOO worth it!

The relatively "high" price of a Kitchen Aid is balanced by their marvelous quality and reputation. They really are the standard for excellence in professional restaurant kitchens as well as home kitchens. If you spend the price for a Kitchen Aid you will not regret it because it will last and last and last...

If you buy a cheaper mixer, you probably won't have it for more than a few years.
Since you say cooking is your passion, you really ought to treat yourself. And if you go on e-bay and look, you'll probably find some really nice bargains.

Mom had one since her marriage 'way back in 1939 and it is still running. Just wish I knew where it was because now I'd be using it.

Really, who deserves a treat more than you, right?? Go for it!!

Hope this helps.

Happy Mixing!

I have found the kitchen aid mixer the best because I replaced one of the old cuisenart mixers with it and for me the kitchen aid mixer is sturdier and a better buy in the long run.

My sister is a chef and she says it is the best mixer she has ever had. She says if you cook a lot its the best kind to get and they last a long time. The one she has, has attachments so you can use it for everything from pasta making to ice cream making. Its worth the investment.

They are absolutely worth it. i bought one a few years back and during my usage i was abusing it by mixing way to much fondant. and it broke so i called the 1800# on the side of the machine and told them what happenend and kitchen aid sent me a new mixer free of charge they even paid to ship the old broken one back. you can get them at kohls for very cheap then use a coupon and at check out sign up for a credit card and get an extra 10-15% off

Yes they are worth it. My Kitchenaid will probably outlive me!!

I have never heard of one breaking as quickly as the cheaper ones. I got a cheap one when my son was born. Sunbeam tries to make a comparable model. I've gone through 3 of the $50 ones. It didn't take me long to see that it's worth the investment. If you buy a lower priced one, you'll just have to replace it within the next couple of years. Why not buy one that is made to last.

If you like cooking, it's definitely worth the investment.

Yes- a time tested- tried and true brand. It's a true investment- It will pay for itself, as other answerers have said- these mixers last. They work well, and are so worth the price. :)

Yes --
It's a consensus.
If you were satisfied with your brand, you'll likely be satisfied with their new model -- possibly.
Anyway:
Now's the time to jump in if you're looking to buy -- Xmas sales --
As one of responders noted, Kohl's generally runs these on sale during the holiday season.

One of my best kitchen purchases -- but I like baking.
