When I half press my shutter , does this meter the light as well as focus ?

If this is the case, what do I do if i want to meter the light from say the grass but i want to focus on a building ?

Some cameras have an exposure lock. Otherwise, you could use the camera manually, meter for the grass and set the aperture or shutter or both for the exposure you want.
