I am 33 years old, and I don't eat too much, but I have gained 10 pounds. I hate to do exercises, so what I need is an effective diet. I think what I need is to change my metabolism, but I don't know how. Could anybody help me?

Hi there,

As we get older our bodies metabolism does begin to slow down a little bit. It's a fact of life we must all learn to deal with.

Sadly, there is no instant fix it when it comes to weight loss. If there was, the weight loss industry wouldn't be so huge!

The good news for you is that you are taking action early. By noticing a small incremental change (10 pounds) you can easily stop the weight gain before it really starts.

The easiest way to lose weight is by exercising and reducing the amount of food you eat on a day to day basis.

I recommend getting involved in activities you enjoy like basketball, walking, and swimming.

In regards to eating, the greatest good you can do is cutting down on soda and sugary drinks. Next is to watch what you eat past a certain time, say 7pm or so.

Losing weight is not an instant accomplishment, it takes discipline, time, and patience. Take it day by day and make small changes. In no time flat you'll be on your way to looking and feeling a whole lot better.

The low-carb diet commonly called the Atkins diet or South Beach diet is very effective. Basically, you start by eating all protein like meat and cheese, no sugar, and no carbs. After a week or so, you can add certain fruits and vegetables that are low in carbohydrates. I recommend getting a book about the Atkins diet because it has information about how many carbs are in certain foods and it will have meal plans and recipes. You will lose weight fast. I lost 15 ponds in 2 weeks. Be careful though, it is not the healthiest diet in the world so don't stay on it for too long.

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

I hate to break it to you but the older you get, the MORE you will have to rely on some sort of exercise to keep from gaining weight. It doesn't have to be anything strenuous. I never used to exercise regularly but when I hit 32 I started and actually like it. As far as diet goes, cut out ALL sugar. Also cut back on the carbs like white bread and eat more veggies. I like Dr. Phil's weight loss book alot although I don't follow it 100%. You also might try writing down EVERYTHING you eat because you may be surprised at how much you are eating when you see it on paper.
