♥ ♥ the chicken ♥ ♥

The egg, because there are other creatures besides chickens that lay eggs that were around LONG before chickens ever came into exisitance.

Now, if you were to ask "what came first the egg or the egg-layer" then we'd be open for a political debate.

The egg. Sorry to kill a riddle but this is why:
Through evolution, a new species is defined as one whos genetic makeup is so different from its predecor that it cannot reproduce with its predecor and obtain an animal with it's own genetic makeup. This is a shaky definition at best, but scientist have a tough time defining it. This means that there are many in-transition examples between species. One might even say that there is no such thing as a "species", but a bunch of in-betweens as minute changes are made. (eye color, height, extra vertabre, etc.) But follwing this definition, an "in-between" laid the first chicken egg, a species barely different from itself but unable to relate to the in-between's predecor. therefor, an eggcame before the chicken.

One could also argue that the chicken was concieved before the egg was made inside the animal.
Or that this does not mean a chicken egg at all and that animals have been laying eggs for millions of years.

There is only one place from where a chicken egg comes; and that is a hen.

The egg, of course. Actually it was an egg of a close relative that mutated and became the chicken when it hatched. This explanation works if you believe in evolution. If you don't believe in evolution, then the answeris the chicken because of God, who made all of the animals, at which point chickens existed and then made the first eggs.

Your choice.

My theory is that the chicken came first, since it had legs, and could walk... it had to find a place to make a nest and then it would lay eggs. Which, therefore, came second...
While looking for a place to make a nest, it had to cross the road... that's why it crossed the road.
Of course, since there were no automobiles back then, it was safe to cross.
The grass is greener on the other side of the road, so the chicken wanted to make a nest there.

HAPPY NEW YEAR
