I don't have a studio. My photo business is a second job to me, because I don't make enough money with that alone. This year has been rough financially for me, and I've only had 5 jobs (mostly weddings). I only had 1 sport job, and I was told by one parent it was because gas prices were so high... most parents didn't want sport pictures from a professional. Gas prices have dropped yet I have not received any calls. Should I give up my business?

Have you thought about exhibiting at different bridal shows? When I got married last year, that is how I found my photographer. He had a booth set up at one of the shows and a several different books that showed his style.

Also, you may want to contact different hotels and churches and ask if they have a preferred vendors list and see how you can get on that list. This list is given to anyone that books an event with the hotels and churches.

Another source is Wedding Consultants/Party Planners. They are always looking for vendors for their brides.

Check out some of the sites below. Good Luck with your business.

Are you still shooting 35mm or film? Give it up... and shoot only digital.

It may take an investment, but you need to be in the digital age.

get a Kodak p880 and learn the camera... get Photoshop to edit, catalog and make CDs.

Run an ad offering a free CD of the images with a sitting or wedding.

Invest in at least 2 lights even if they are off camera flashes. (which will plug into the P880 or the DX6490 by Kodak.

Borrow the $ if you have to... but, don't give it up... you'll hate yourself if you do.

Probably lack of "marketing strategy".......try to market yourselves. You should be aggressive especially with your other competitors......Present yourself "professionally", prepare an "excellent portfolio", bring "businesscard" all the time, if you can built a website - its a plus!
