I have two boys, 10 & 12. This issue first started last Sunday night (Christmas Eve). I woke up in the middle of the night because of a bad headache. I went into the kitchen to get a pill and the door was unlocked. (we always lock our doors at night). Thought it was funny...but I checked on the kids, and they were gone. I waited up all night in the bedroom to see if I could hear them come home...but I felll asleep. I confronted them the next morning, and they said they had just taken a walk. This happened again last night. I woke up because we had a major storm coming in, and the winds were howling. I went to check on the kids, and sure enough, they were gone again. This has been anywhere from 12am-3am that they are gone. Why would my kids be taking a walk in the middle of the night?

wow! I don't know why they would be taking a walk in the middle of the night. If at all possible see if you can either catch them when they get up or try to follow them.
I know with my kids they won't tell me the truth if I asked them---espcially if they thought they would get into trouble.
I can't imagine how scared you must have been though.

Everybody says they are up to no good but in your kids opinion they are up to nothing but good. So you must think about what it is that you don't let your kids have too much of and that is what they might be looking for. Do they spend enough time with their friends or are they not allowed to have a boyfriend/girlfriend? You might find out who they are sneaking out with if you know someone they know that works late or who's parents are away for the holidays. A kid out in the streets is out there because they have accepted an invitation to an unsuppervised home or place to be alone and not get caught. They are just trying to grow up and there is something that they are being deprived of that they want and can only get without your permission.

Wow, they are not just "taking a walk". No one goes for a walk between 12 - 3 AM. And if I were you, I wouldn't be going to bed and trying to catch them when they come home, yet end up falling asleep. I would be calling the police, or trying to find them. And the fact that you're believing that they are actually going for a walk, is a little ridiculous. Step your parenting up, they are lying and sneaking out to do GOD knows what. Plain and Simple. You need to find out what they're doing.

I am 13.. close to the age of u're sons.. if they r sneaking out at night then i think u should talk to them about WHERE they are going and WHAT they are doing becuase it could be something bad if they r not telling u... if that doesn't work then u should LOCK all the doors including their window if they have one so they don't have access to getting out of the house with an alarm then u could be awake be4 they leave and not after they've left.

Maybe they went down magical stairs under their bed and were taken away by a boat to go dancing all night. Do their shoes have holes in them? Use your invisible cloak to find them. For more info, read the Grimm's Fairy Tale.

If this isn't some kind of joke, you're a freaking idiot. Nail the windows shut. Stay up at night and catch them at it. Punish them for sneaking out the first time.

For God's sake, stay awake at night. Sleep in the day time, or get someone else over until you figure out what the hell is going on. Those kid's are way to young to be out a night they are not even teenagers. To be away from home that late at night is dangerous. If you can't figure it out FAST, call the police. They will! Who knows what those kid's are doing or WHAT SOMEONE IS DOING TO THEM.

sharpen your parenting skills and put an alarm on the windows and doors, they dont cost alot and step up your worry level ALOT more than you are because i would have had the cops called the second they were not in the house, why would you just wait and than fall asleep? what mother could sleep and what if someone took them, you had no clue where they were and you could have been lounging on your bed while your kids were being molested or murdered.Get a clue.

They are not taking a walk! Why would you not call the police if you could not find your 10 and 12 year olds in the middle of the night? That defies common sense and parental responsibility.

They are up to no good. Talk to them and tell them you will call the police if they disappear again. Anything can happen to kids that late at night.Do not believe what they say about taking a walk.
