I bought a car a couple of months ago with cash and still have not recived the title. I have been to the dealer numourous times and every time they just come up with excuses that make no sense. How many days do they have before they have to give me back the money?

That's way beyond reasonable. Go to the dealership and politely demand your title IMMEDIATELY, or a full refund of the purchase price (be prepared to turn the car over immediately if you request that and they agree).

If they fail to deliver, call the DMV from the dealership and file a formal complaint. Then call the state AG's office and do the same. If you really want to get things going, call the local media outlets and invite them over. If it's a "slow news" day, you'll have a circus going that would make old P.T. Barnum proud.

A car title is a document issued by the state in which you bought the car. The dealer does the paperwork and files it with the state. The state then mails the title to the buyer. This process can take 30 to 60 days in some cases.

You need to talk to the DMV in your state and ask. Laws vary by state. Next, contact the Better Business Bureau in your area and report the dealer and seek their guidance. Or perhaps you'll need the advice of an attorney or file in Small Claims Court and force them to surrender the title.
You're correct, something is very strange about all this, two months seems way too long.

They usually get the title pretty quick. I'm not sure why it would take that long. Go to the dealer and try to get an answer. Some places can be a real pain, or they may just be lying???

Relax.... it can take up to 3 months. And it's not the dealer's fault (provided they sent the forms in a timely manner).... the delay is with the DMV.

If you plan on keeping the car, they don't have to give you your money back.
